Valin is a versatile wing that can light up a defense with a beautiful shot from three. If the defense plays too close he can aggressively attack the rim off the bounce. Valin can score with either hand or play off both feet. Valin loves to explode to the rim and throw it down. Don’t give him one step. He is a solid ball handler and defender. Valin uses his length to mix it up on the boards.
This past season on a loaded team Valin averaged 5.6 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. The most motivating thing that happened to Valin last season that pushed him forward was being one game away from states - playing on that big stage is a goal for him and all of his teammates. They know the work it takes to get there and they know they can achieve it with hard work. Valin's personal goal is to stay healthy. Valin's coach always says, “Some people's best contribution to the team is being available”. Valin had many injuries he has overcome that have kept him out. He is committed to playing a full season this year. Along with winning states with his teammates. They have a lot of returners from last year with great chemistry.
Playing AAU for the Wisconsin playmakers Valin's goals were to win and push each other to become better. Valin personally wanted to improve on the defensive side of his game. He wants to be able to guard the best player on the court no matter the position. Valin achieved these goals and grew through adversity. They lost a few guys this session they also gained others. The new players contributed exceptionally well. The practices were very competitive. That’s what Valin thinks it’s all about, having an AAU team that not only the players push you but also the coaches.
What fuels Valin's fire the most out there is when his Coach pushes him. Coach was always pushing him to play at a high level and to the best of his abilities.
When things don’t go Valin's way he tries to control his emotions. When his shots aren’t falling he thinks about how he can get someone else involved and be the best teammate. Valin knows eventually his shots will fall.
A coach can count on Valin to always be looking to learn something new. Whether it's on film or learning a new move or play. He is always willing to learn. He is the hardest worker on the court and is in amazing shape.
Valin feels he is a D1 player but knows he still has a long way to go - especially in the aspect of getting stronger. Valin has the right people around him who constantly make him better. He knows if he keeps working hard and keeping his same routine it will pay off.
I assess that this young star is set to have a breakout season after a strong summer. The talent and potential Valin possesses are high with his size and versatile skill set. He is coachable and hungry! He is pushing himself to reach his goals and dreams. Everyone is excited about this season and beyond. Can't wait to see how high he flies. Buckle up.
