Some guards dominate games by forcing everything. John does it by letting the game come to him while still attacking when the moment calls for it. The skilled guard out of Cypress Woods continues making noise because of the way he combines shot-making, playmaking, pace, toughness, and nonstop energy into a game that keeps getting stronger every time he steps on the floor.

John describes himself as a true facilitator first. Getting teammates involved and creating easy opportunities for others sits at the center of how he approaches the game. But what makes him dangerous is the fact that defenses can’t simply play him as a pass-first guard because once he starts looking for his own offense, he becomes a major scoring threat too. That balance is what separates his game.

John takes major pride in his shooting ability. Whether it’s catch-and-shoot situations, pulling up off the bounce, or finding rhythm after changing speeds, he’s capable of heating up quickly. His confidence offensively keeps growing because he understands how to create space while staying under control. Defenders constantly have to respect both the jumper and his ability to attack off the bounce.

That was on full display during a strong 3-1 weekend on the Puma Circuit in Kansas City, where John averaged 15 points per game against high-level competition. His pace changes, body control around the rim, and shot-making ability all started clicking together throughout the weekend. Once he found rhythm early, his confidence kept building game after game, allowing him to stay aggressive offensively while still making smart reads for teammates.

One of the biggest improvements in John’s game from high school season into AAU has been his decision-making. Earlier in the year, turnovers caused by rushed decisions frustrated him at times. Instead of letting those moments continue becoming a problem, he focused on slowing himself down mentally and becoming more poised with the ball in his hands. That growth has completely changed the way he controls games now because he’s making smarter reads while staying calm under pressure.

The high school season also brought adversity that tested him mentally. Like many players chasing bigger opportunities, John dealt with not always getting the minutes he wanted. Instead of letting frustration affect his attitude or confidence, he stayed patient, kept improving, and continued working until his opportunities started growing. That mindset helped him finish the season on a much stronger note while building confidence heading into AAU.

Now running with AWAKE Basketball on the Next Pro Circuit, John says one of the best parts of the experience has been the exposure that comes with competing at that level. The tournaments constantly push out highlights, clips, and write-ups, allowing players and teams to gain major attention on social media and recruiting platforms. As both he and his team continue performing well, that exposure has already started building momentum around his name.

Heading into live period, John is carrying a chip on his shoulder as an underrated and unranked guard looking to prove himself. His goals are simple: make noise, gain attention from college coaches, and show he belongs at the next level. Off the floor, he’s staying locked into academics as well, carrying a 3.6 GPA while focusing on maintaining strong grades and preparing for the SAT.

When college coaches pull up to watch John, they’re going to get a confident guard that hunts shots, creates for teammates, moves well without the ball, and competes with a nonstop motor. They’re going to see aggressive defense, smart playmaking, body control, and a player who continues to impact the game in multiple ways every possession.

I assess that John is a skilled combo guard with strong shooting ability, improving decision-making, and excellent feel for the game. His pace changes, shot creation, and ability to facilitate make him tough to defend because he can hurt defenses as both a scorer and playmaker. His improved poise with the ball has added another important layer to his game.

John’s confidence, offensive versatility, and willingness to continue improving stand out immediately. Guards that can create offense for themselves while still making smart reads for teammates are always valuable. As his decision-making, consistency, and defensive toughness continue to rise, John has the tools to keep turning heads while building into a very productive next-level guard.
