Griffin is an electrifying athlete who is both fast and shifty. He absolutely loves getting out in transition, so he can display his nasty high fly finishes or jaw dropping passes to feed his teammates. As a triple threat scoring option, he can punish a defense in any way he chooses to. He is explosive off the bounce, with a first step that leaves defenders in his dust with his blowby speed. With all he brings on the offensive end, he is scary good defensively. He has an incredible game IQ. He jumps passing lanes with amazing anticipation and quick hands, and he turns defense into fast break offense. Both scrappy and fierce, this kid is special. He plays just like Jayson Williams from back in the day. That's not an exaggeration. This kid’s game is magical and he has a dazzling display of elite skills.
This past season, he averaged 12 points a game while shooting 58fg% adding 3 assist and 2.8 steals. His team lost their last game in the 2nd round of the playoffs. He felt they didn’t perform as well as they should have and that motivated him to work even harder. His biggest goal for this upcoming season is to win a state championship, while also averaging 15 points and 5+ assists per game along the way.
Playing AAU for Bigger Than Basketball, his goals were to get eyes on him and to improve in all facets of his game. His shooting off the dribble has seriously improved, and he has made very few errors. What really fires him up the most is playing in a hostile environment in front of a loud, rowdy crowd. That is what gets his adrenaline pumping. He is always looking for ways to improve his game and leave his mark in every game.
When asked what a coach can expect from him, he said “an unselfish player who is ready to work and who is always trying to get better.” This kid is willing to do all the dirty work while always giving it 110%. He brings a tenacious defensive energy that fires up his teammates. His dream is to play at the next level, and I absolutely feel that he can. He checks every box and then some. Don't let his size fool you, this fearless gem is loaded with talent and potential to earn a spot on a D1 roster. You can’t teach hunger, fire and grit. Those are just things that are inside him. Don't just take my word for it, go see him play for yourself and you too will see how gifted this kid is.
