Preston Luzader @LuzanderPreston, 6'7 , 215, c/o 25 from Clay Battelle High School, WV is an amazing versatile big that can flat kill a defense inside or out. . In the post he has incredible footwork and timing . With his back to the basket he is crafty and can shoot with either hand but that lefty is tough to stop. Or he can face up and attack the rim and finish strong even through contact. Preston used that size to carve out his stace and make it easy to get the shots he wants. Or he can be lethal from outside and you can give any space or its buckets from downtown. He can drop some sweet times with his high IQ and he looks for cutting teammates. He thrives in setting screens for his guards to get them clean open looks. Preston is very unselfish. Fundamentally rock solid understanding the value of setting those screens, boxing out for rebounds, moving well without the ball and anticipating plays before they develop like where the open spaces will be with great court vision. Preston is an absolute beast on the boards like windex whipping them clean.
Last season Preston averaged 15.6 points ,11 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. Preston scored 420 points on 74% shooting from the field, 42% from 3, gobbled up 297 rebounds and dropped 63 assists. which set the 3rd all time record for high school boys en route to the state championship semi-finals while earning him WVSSAC Class A -All -Tournament honors.. In the AAU session Prestion scored 244 points shooting 43% from 3 and 78 % FT ,dropping 25 assists. snagged 192 rebounds. Prestons biggest accomplishment for the AAU session was winning a ring at the S. A. B. A. national championship in Columbia, SC and being invited to play on the 2025 Team WV Staten to represent WV at the US Basketball games in Atlanta, GA. Preston's biggest improvement has been his ability to finish through contact. Spent a lot of time in the weight room understanding how vital it was to get stronger. . Preston's goal for this season is to join the 1000 point club, 70 points away, earning 1st Team All-State and a return trip to Charlelston for another shot at winning that championship Preston also became better at drawing contact and getting to the free throw line for easy points. So far this season Preston is averaging 20.2 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists. in 12 games so far. Preston has scored 242 points while shooting 74% from the free throw and adding 137 rebounds and 38 assists in 12 games so far.
Coaches should know what sets Prestion apart is that high IQ which allows him to see plays before they happen from his position of the high-post. And with his ability to dominate and make shots consistently from that high-post position with either hand is a problem for even elite defenders.. Best part is Preston is a magician at making great backdoor passes to cutting teammates as he anticipates those cuts before they ever happen..Preston would be thrilled to play D1 basketball on the next level but his drive to just play next level ball perion and continue playing the game he loves while pursuing a solid education, nothing would be better for him. His size and high-post ability makes him steal for any D2 where he would not only thrive , but excel. My assessment is a mid-major to low level D1 easily.. Preston possesses intangibles you just can't teach . He has an extremely high ceiling and is coachable. Keep a close eye on this young star as he continues to make this championship run..
