Linney is a versatile athlete who can play multiple positions. He can shoot when he needs to shoot from all three levels, but he is also a willing passer when he sees an open man. He takes great pride in setting his teammates up for success. His calling card is his hard nose defense. This kid gets gritty and grimy and will roll up his sleeves to do the dirty work.
This past season, he averaged 10 points, 5 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game. He was a key contributor in every game his team won. His team lost in the Conference Championship game to a team they had beaten previously. That loss left him with a very bad taste in his mouth, and he is determined to not let history repeat itself. One of his biggest individual goals for this upcoming season is to make All Conference.
Playing AAU for the Carolina Storm, his goal is to get better in all facets of the game. He wants to play this season with confidence at all times, trusting the process and trusting in the hard work he has put in. Nothing fires this kid up more than when the crowd (whether home or away) is loud and fired up and when an opposing player tries to rattle him by talking trash.
One thing he said he wants to really focus on this season is to have more of a poker face and not let his frustration show if things aren’t going his way that night on the court. He also wants to be even more of a leader and be the biggest cheerleader and on court coach for his teammates.
When asked what a coach can expect from him he said “Someone who is coachable, can take constructive criticism and can make the necessary changes to fix whatever is going wrong. I will give it everything I have on both offense and defense, and I always want to cover the opposing team’s best player.” This kid is definitely a dog who wants all the smoke
.His dream is to play on the D1 level, and due to his fierce competitiveness and work ethic, he believes the sky is the limit for him. Getting to see this kid play live, was truly a special treat for me. He was everywhere on the defensive side of theball and in absolutely dominating fashion. With him fully understanding that defense wins games, and him having a “team first” mentality, I absolutely believe he can play on the D1 level, and be extremely successful.
