AAU: TN Tigers
There’s something different about players who already understand confidence at a young age, built through work, repetition, and thousands of shots when nobody is watching. That’s the lane Lachlan is stepping into right now, and it’s showing more every single time he touches the floor.
Lachlan describes his game as hard, playing, active, and confident. He brings energy on both ends, moves with purpose, and never looks scared of the moment. The shot-making grabs your attention first because when he gets space, he lets it fly without hesitation. But the deeper you watch, the more you see the layers starting to build. The pace, the quickness, the growing playmaking ability, the defensive activity, the communication, and the willingness to compete every possession. Those are the things beginning to separate him from just being another young shooter.
That fearless mindset comes directly from the work. Lachlan knows exactly why he trusts himself. When you put up thousands of shots, eventually the doubt disappears. The confidence is earned, and that trust shows in the way he plays because he never looks rushed or overwhelmed. He understands preparation creates freedom. Once the game starts, he’s simply trusting the work he already put in behind the scenes.
One of the biggest decisions he made recently came with AAU basketball. Before joining the TN Tigers, Lachlan had seriously considered staying with the same program he had played for throughout his AAU career. But something about the Tigers stood out to him before he officially joined the program. He had heard great things about the culture, competitiveness, and expectations. Then came the workout with the 16U coach, and everything clicked.
Lachlan talked about the competitiveness the Tigers bring every single day, whether it’s practice, workouts, or games. That environment immediately challenged him to rise. There’s no hiding in a gym like that. For Lachlan, that became one of the biggest reasons he knew he made the right choice. He wanted an environment that demanded growth, and the Tigers have given him exactly that.
The word that really stands out when he talks about the program is “uncomfortable.” Most players run from discomfort. Lachlan is learning to embrace it. He admitted he had not really experienced that type of environment in other programs before, but now it’s becoming one of the biggest things helping his game grow. Growth happens when players stop chasing easy and start chasing development. Lachlan is beginning to understand that at a young age, and it’s going to keep pushing his game forward.
His biggest improvement lately has come with decision-making and defense. Early in the season, he already felt good about his shooting and finishing ability, but he also recognized the areas that needed work. Instead of ignoring those weaknesses, he attacked them head-on. He saw that his energy level and defensive consistency needed another level, and since then, he’s made it a point of emphasis during every workout and game.
A lot of young scorers only focus on buckets. Lachlan is beginning to understand the full picture of impacting winning basketball. Defense, communication, energy, pace, and making the right reads are all becoming bigger parts of his game. As he continues developing his point guard skills, that combination becomes dangerous because now you’re talking about a player who can shoot it, handle it, create, and compete defensively while playing with confidence.
This offseason is about continuing to evolve. The focus is becoming more complete, more vocal, more active, and more reliable with the ball in his hands. Every rep now is building toward bigger goals in AAU and beyond, and Lachlan sounds fully locked into the process.
When asked what coaches can expect every time he steps on the floor, his answer paints the full picture of the player he’s becoming. A knockdown shooter and somebody quick but controlled with pace. A player who stays active and communicates. That combination wins games. Coaches love players who can space the floor, compete defensively, and bring energy consistently, and Lachlan is building himself into exactly that type of guard.
Looking ahead to next season, expect a more complete version of Lachlan. The shooting and the confidence will still be there. But now the game around it is growing too. The defense is improving, the reads are improving, the point guard instincts are developing, and with the culture and pressure of the TN Tigers continuing to push him every day, he’s putting himself in position to take another strong step forward.
I assess that Lachlan is a confident young guard with a smooth shooting touch, good pace, and a high motor. His ability to make shots while also competing defensively gives him value on both ends of the floor. What stands out most is his willingness to embrace discomfort and attack weaknesses instead of hiding from them. That mentality is helping his all-around game grow quickly. As his point guard skills continue to develop, he has the tools to become a highly effective two-way lead guard who impacts the game in multiple ways.
Lachlan’s shooting ability immediately stretches defenses, but his growth defensively and as a decision maker is what makes his upside exciting. He moves well, plays with confidence, communicates, and competes hard. The TN Tigers environment appears to be pushing him mentally and physically, and that development is showing up in his game already. As he keeps building strength, improving his reads, and expanding his playmaking, expect his overall impact to continue rising.
Stay tuned.
