Joey is another prolific defensive stud and an underclassman on the rise. Joey has incredible instincts and lateral footwork as he sniffs out the offensive ball carrier. Once he gets a beat on the baller carrier, his closing speed is fun to watch like a missile closing in on its target. He makes blockers miss and can catch fast running backs. While still being strong enough to take on blocks when needed to hit the ball carrier with crushing impact. Joey also has a fierce competitive mindset along with a strong defensive IQ. Joey is always near the ball on every play.

Joey's love for the game, and his family (both his real family and his football family) he never wants to let down, especially the seniors, that's what fuels him on the field. One of Joe's struggles growing up was his dad leaving when he was a kid. He feels like football has helped him get past that by giving him a new family.

To describe the defense as a whole Joey says everybody does their job but isn’t selfish. When one person makes a play everybody is happy for them. He calls their defense, one you wouldn’t want to play against. Every play there is a high possibility of getting hit by more than one player and in some plays all 11 of them will be on top of the ball carrier. The entire defense runs to the ball no matter what!

This past sophomore season Joey had 117 tackles (70 solo and 47 assists) with 3 TFLs, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 blocked punt. In the first game this year as a junior, Joey had 11 tackles ( 8 solo with 2 TFLs.) Joey's biggest improvement is his ability to read the other team's offense and being able to get off blocks. The most motivating thing that happened last year that will push Joey to move forward was the loss to Powell in the 2nd round of playoffs and seeing all the seniors walk off the field knowing that was their last game   Joey's goals this season are to make a deeper playoff run and get stronger and better to make the goal of a championship run a reality.

A coach can expect Joey to leave everything he has on the field no matter what is happening in the game. Joey will fight till the end of the game with a relentless motor going 110%, this missile will always find his target.

Joey would love to play at a D1 level school but he would play wherever he can. This year is going to be his 12th year playing football and he has never lost his love for football.   A school would stand out to Joey if they have a good coaching staff, that is one of the most important things in Joey's opinion.

Joey says to those coming behind him to always listen to coaches and put in the extra work. Practice hard and be ready when it's your opportunity.

I asses that Joey is among the best defenders in the state and performs at such a high level his ceiling is literally through the roof. D1 isn't out of his reach, with his passion and work ethic, Joey hasn't even scratched the surface of how good he can be. I'm gonna nickname him the missile, he rarely misses his target. Joey will be a huge part of the success of this team. He is tough and gritty with a lot of DOG in him. Stay tuned as we track his journey for the next two seasons.!
