Owen is the type of guard that controls the game without forcing it, a smart, poised floor general whose IQ and passing ability instantly stand out the moment he steps on the court. Everything starts with how he sees the floor. He reads defenses early, understands spacing, and delivers the ball right where it needs to be, whether it’s threading a tight window or hitting a teammate in stride for an easy bucket. But what makes Owen dangerous is that he’s not just a passer; he knows when to pick his spots and make defenses pay. With good size for his position, he plays with balance and control, never rushed, never out of rhythm. He keeps the game flowing, keeps teammates involved, and brings a steady presence that every team needs at the guard spot.
This past season brought real growth, especially physically. Owen made a big jump in strength from his sophomore to junior year, and it showed in how he handled contact and stayed composed in tougher situations. That added strength helped him compete on both ends and gave him more confidence when attacking or holding his ground defensively. But the season also brought a moment that stuck with him. Getting into foul trouble in the sectional semifinal loss limited his time on the floor, and he knew he wasn’t in the right mental space heading into that game. Instead of running from it, he owned it. That moment became fuel, something he can carry with him moving forward as he continues to grow not just as a player, but mentally.
Heading into this offseason, Owen is locked in on elevating key areas of his game. On-ball defense is a major focus, taking pride in locking up his matchup and becoming a more complete two-way presence. He’s also working on his ability to shoot off the dribble, adding another weapon to his offensive game that will make him even tougher to guard. With his vision already being a strength, adding that scoring threat off the bounce will force defenders into tough decisions every possession.
There’s a quiet confidence about Owen, the kind that doesn’t need to be loud to be felt. He understands the game, trusts his work, and continues to build his game step by step. As he looks ahead, there’s real excitement about competing against conference opponents and showing the growth he’s putting in behind the scenes. Coaches can expect a guard who plays the right way, who values the team, and who brings consistency, effort, and a high level of understanding every time he steps on the floor.
I assess that Owen impacts the game through feel, awareness, and decision-making that goes beyond his years. His ability to control tempo, make the right reads, and keep teammates involved gives him natural value at the guard position. As his strength continues to improve and he adds more scoring off the dribble, his overall effectiveness will continue to rise. He brings a dependable presence that coaches can trust to run a team and make winning plays.
Owen’s long-term potential centers around his growth into a complete lead guard who can both create and defend at a high level. With continued development in lateral quickness, defensive pressure, and shot creation, he is poised to be a guard who can impact a college program by managing the game, elevating teammates, and making smart, timely plays. His mindset, combined with steady improvement, points toward a player whose best basketball is still ahead. Stay tuned.
