Brady Skidmore is an explosive dual threat QB who can beat you with his arm or with his legs. He was recently clocked in the 40 yard dash in 4.8 seconds and threw a 45 yd touchdown in the air. That’s not too shabby for a kid who hasn’t even started high school yet. Like all incoming high school freshman, his biggest goal this past offseason was to hit the weight room and get stronger. He also attended several quarterback camps to soak up as much as he could. His middle school team finished last season undefeated, and that entire group will be moving up to the same high school together. When you already have a group of kids who trust each other and have chemistry, that is going to be a dangerous group over the next few seasons. His personal goals for this upcoming season are to be as successful as possible on the varsity team. He fully understands that high school is a completely different level. Now, he will be competing against players who can be 4-5 years older than him, who have all been lifting weights for the past 4-5 years.
Nothing makes this kid more happy than when he throws a touchdown pass. That adrenaline rush and satisfaction of picking the defense apart that was specifically designed to stop him gives him an exhilarating feeling that simply can’t be matched. He absolutely loves watching his teammates cross that goal line.
Being a quarterback requires you to have a short term memory, never rattle when things aren’t going well during a game, be the biggest cheerleader for the entire team and always making sure to stay calm, cool and collected in high pressure situations. Lastly, it is imperative that you learn from mistakes and not repeat them. Mistakes are going to happen with any player, in every sport on every level, but it is how a player responds to those mistakes that will make them truly special.
When asked what a coach can expect from him, he said, “I will always give 110% on the field, in each and every single game. I will never disrespect a coach or disrespect one of my teammates on or off the field.” That is the very definition of what you 100% need in a quarterback. PERIOD. I’m beyond impressed that a rising freshman has this level of maturity and poise.
He hopes to be recruited by a D1 college someday, preferably in Kentucky but would consider other alternatives for sure. He is looking for not only a strong football program but also strong academics. When asked what advice he would give to younger players he said, “Always be coachable, respectful and give 110% every single time!”
My personal assessment is that any athlete who leads a team to an undefeated record in the 8th grade and then establishes himself enough to walk on the field his freshman year and be named the starter on varsity … well the proof is in the pudding as they say. He is very difficult to game plan for, because if you cover all his weapons, he will simply tuck the ball and take off running. He is extremely coachable and hungry to learn and get better and better. He is willing to put in the work it takes to accomplish his goals. There is truly no limit to how good this kid can be in the future. However, as I always say with all players, it is absolutely imperative for him to stay focused, keep his eye on the prize, and always remember to make smart decisions off the field. I am not the slightest bit worried about him doing all of that and more. This kid is going to be special. Mark my words.
