Reese is a lethal catch-and-shoot three-point sniper with a silky touch but can put the ball on the deck with blow-by speed and attack the lane to create for himself or others. Reese is a natural-born leader and fierce competitor who has the ultimate pride in winning with a high IQ and good court vision. Reese is crafty and creative enough that he keeps the defense guessing. Being a lefty sharpshooter adds another dimension to his game and makes him tough to guard. Reese mixes it up on the boards and is a scrappy defender thatwhorupts the flow of the opposing team’s offense. Reese is quick on his feet, which helps him push the ball up the floor fast as well as get his hands dirty on defense.
Reese missed all of his junior season due to back surgery, but his stats from the summer playing AAU for the Stars Basketball Club were 14 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds per game as a starter on a team that went 26-7. Reese's goals for this season are to be the best leader he can be and make a state tournament run because Ravenwood Basketball has never been to that stage before. Reese also wants to contribute in any way his team needs him to in order to win. Reese wants to continue to be consistent from behind the arc and be a guy that gets others involved. The biggest challenge to this is playing physical on defense as they are undersized as a team. Reese knows they need to fly around and be pests.
Reese's biggest improvement from last season, since he missed all last season due to back surgery, was getting stronger and focusing on his body. Reese has noticed a great improvement throughout the early season that he is ncan nowe how he wants to and not get deterred from getting to his spot.
Reese's biggest basketball accomplishments are that he has always played on winning teams and been a captain for this year's Ravenwood Team. Reese is second all-time at Ravenwood for three-pointers made in a game with eight threes. He shot 45% from three his sophomore year and scored 20 points in his first varsity game in an overtime win.
Reese is looking forward to two games, one being Brentwood, because it is always a great atmosphere, and they are their rivals. It should be a competitive game as both teams have great shooting ability, especially from three. Another game Reese is looking forward to is Franklin because they are seen as the top of their district right now, and he’s looking forward to giving them their best shot because they lost to them three times last year.
Reese believes that this team can make a deep tournament run. They are starting to get some key pieces back from injuries and football, along with some guys stepping into major roles that are looking great so far. This team is competitive and takes on the underdog mindset. Other teams may not believe it, but they think they can hang with anybody on any court.
What fires Reese up the most is when they get a bunch of consecutive stops and scores, forcing the other team to call a timeout. It’s a tone-setter, especially when this happens at the start of the game or coming out of a quarter.
When facing adversity, Reese goes back to the basics. Reese has dedicated countless hours to craft, so he knows he has prepared for every situation he could be in. This gives Reese no reason to play tight and hesitant. When Reese thinks of his past work, he gains a sense of peace, knowing that these are the moments he has trained for and needs to embrace.
The best piece of advice Reese received was from his dad, who always tells him to let the game come to him. What Reese takes from this is just to be himself. Do not try to be the hero. Reese has a pretty good flow and understanding of the game, so he just needs to play hard, and the rest will come.
Interests and hobbies outside of basketball for Reese are, as a Christian believer, he loves spending time with God and going to his father-son Bible study. Reese loves to be around family and friends. Reese also loves to golf and likes watching basketball or pretty much any sport with his dad and friends.
To reach the next level, Reese feels he will need to continue to be consistent, keep on putting in the hours and work, and the rest will come. Reese thinks he just needs to play to win the game and stay in the present moment. Reese's goal is to play at the D1 level, but right now, he feels like he is a good fit for schools on the D3 or D2 level, especially programs that like the three-ball. Reese can space the floor well, and defenses have to adjust to him, which opens up opportunities for his teammates. Reese is in communication with a couple of coaches at D3 schools but currently does not have any offers.
Reese is a savvy guard that has a fierce will to win and compete at the highest level. Reese certainly has the ability to thrive at the next level with strong scoring ability and tenacious, pesky defense. The perfect intangibles of court vision, leadership, and high basketball IQ will only help him be a strong impact. Reese's humility, coachability, defense, and intense work ethic make him a steal for where he lands. The fire and determination to get to the state tournament is must-see TV. Stay tuned, y’all—it’s going to be a fun ride!
