JD has literally flawless mechanics. He has an extremely strong and accurate arm, and he can make all the toughest throws. Whether being in the pocket, or scrambling outside the tackle box, this kid doesn’t miss. He is masterful at reading a defensive coverage and he has wicked timing, always hitting his receivers in stride. He has insane pocket awareness for such a young player. He is fast and athletic, and he will not only make you pay with his arm, but with his legs also, if a play breaks down, or if his receivers are covered.
You know the story all too well. He is a coach’s son. Enough said. Those players are always built different, because they have had an innocent, loving “intense ” training regiment going on since they could first walk. When your Dad is a coach, most of your time will be spent watching his practices and his games. At home, he will always be watching game film, which you then sit next to him and learn how to do. He is constantly competing all offseason as well in various 7v7 tournaments.
The past year has been big in JDs development. He said he has never worked as hard as he has this past year. He’s been lifting and running, not just throwing passes. That is the key difference. Many QB’s throw all offseason long, but how many QB’s in the Class of 2029 are already lifting to get stronger and running to get faster? Exactly. This past season, he traveled around the country competing with and against some of the best players in the entire Nation. He attended several camps, played in the highest level 7v7 tournaments and competed at college prospect camps against some of the best upperclassmen in the country, all while already being evaluated by college coaches in the process. Iron sharpens iron!
He fully understands that no one has to be a bigger leader and cheerleader than the QB. That just comes with the territory. He has already received his first D1 verbal offer. He was told repeatedly by many coaches, that they have never seen someone his age throw like he does. Now, he has the confidence to know that his dreams are 100% attainable to play college football, as long as he continues to put in the work. He fully understands that a verbal offer can be taken away at any time, so that only motivates him even more. He also understands that there is a ton of talent across the Nation that he will be competing against to get an actual D1 scholarship (which can’t happen until he is going into his Junior Year of High School)
He has a strong faith and he feels that the Lord has given him an opportunity to do something special with football. He believes it's his responsibility to do the best he can with the opportunity he has been blessed to receive, and that is what drives him so hard. This kid is super mature for his age, and he doesn’t seem to be phased in the slightest bit by pressure. The bigger the moment, the better he plays. He said that comes from the confidence he has knowing how much work he puts in. As the saying goes, hard work pays off!
I call JD “the kid with the golden arm, on the road to greatness” and he has yet to disappoint. JD's ultimate goal is to win another title while continuing to elevate his skills and be the best player and leader he can be. He is one of the most accurate passers I have ever seen for such a young age. He is an incredible dual threat athlete, who I expect another monster year from. He has been named the #1 QB in the nation for the class of 29 for a reason. If you are a football fan, do not miss this kid. Trust me!
