Bodnarchuk is a dynamic floor general, with some seriously slick handles. He is a jaw dropping passer who excels at setting up his teammates beautifully. He executes the pick and roll at a very high level, and he has the ability to create plays for his teammates while also scoring himself. He is very good at getting out in transition, and he uses his speed to his advantage. You will often see him blow right past a defender. He gets his shots off very quickly and can pull up on dime. He possesses incredible court vision, and he is able to just completely pick apart a defense.
This past season, he averaged 9.2 points , 7.1 assists , 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 47 FG and 38% from 3 point land. It’s absolutely insane to think that this kid only started playing basketball just 16 months ago. With all the success he has had so far, he has not allowed it to go to his head. He knows that there are players out there who have been playing 11 years longer than he has. But, his work ethic and coachability is what allows him to be successful.
When I asked him what his personal goals were for this upcoming season, he said “I want to stay consistent and make plays every single game. I want to put on more size and strength, and work on my defense, while of course staying late and working on my dribbling, shooting, and finishing strong to the hoop.”
He wants to play the game at the next level and he is willing to put in the work to get him there. He said the game is his mental escape and when he is out there on the court, he can loves the fact that he can solely focus on nothing but the game. He is calm, cool and collected on the court, and when things aren’t going well during a game, he has the ability to slow down, take a deep breath and trust in the process and trust in all the hard work he has put in.
When asked what a coach can expect from him, he said “I have the ability to lead and guide my team. I fully understand each of their individual strengths and that allows me to set each of them up to the best of my ability. For certain sets/plays we run, there are some players that excel in different scenarios. Also, each player is different when it comes to communication and how they handle feedback and constructive criticism. I never forget that.”
He said he believes he can play at the JUCO, NJCAA, D3, or even D2 level. Knowing that nothing takes the place of hard work, and having that DOG mentality, he is willing to outwork everyone else regardless of some players being more experienced, taller etc. The most important thing every player in every sport on every level has to have is confidence. Period. And, this kid absolutely believes in himself and he is willing to put in the work to get better and better. I will be keeping a close eye on him.
