5’7 or 5’8, 139lbs, Class of 2028

Phelps High School (KY)

John brings an electric brand of basketball to the court built on fearless playmaking, crafty ball-handling, and a fierce attacking mindset. What separates John from so many guards his age is the relentless confidence he brings every time he steps on the floor. Whether he’s blowing by defenders with an explosive first step, threading dazzling dimes to set up teammates, or slashing to the rim with a scorer’s mentality, John plays the game like it belongs to him. His ability to drive, dish, and knock down shots makes him a dynamic offensive threat, but it’s his fiery spirit that never backs down, no matter his size, that truly sets him apart. We call that DOGG! Every possession is a chance for John to put his stamp on the game, proving that heart and skill will always outshine height.

Although varsity minutes were limited this past season, John’s growth was impossible to miss. His ball-handling has reached another level, and his confidence has soared, helping him develop into a fearless scorer and an even stronger team leader. His offseason focus is polishing his midrange shooting and tightening his dribble even further to make himself an unstoppable threat at all three levels. The departure of his high school coach, Cameron Smith, was a pivotal moment that fueled John’s hunger to step into a bigger role and carry the momentum forward. Now playing with The Dream Team under Coach Andrew Evans, John has his eyes locked on winning, continuing to grow his game, and making a statement at the Morristown, TN, event on May 10th. His biggest motivation was earning his spot and leaving no doubt he belongs on varsity next season.

Off the court, John’s fire burns just as strong. Winning isn’t just a goal, it’s a lifestyle he embodies every time he suits up. No matter what adversity comes his way, he stays composed, keeps his head up, and fights through every challenge. John lives by a fearless mindset: "It doesn’t matter if you’re the smallest player on the court, what matters is the size of your heart and how hard you play". That bold spirit continues to push him forward as he builds his future, one fearless step at a time.

I assess that John’s fierce ball-handling, explosive slashing ability, and competitive fire give him the kind of spark that can ignite a college program. His skills at creating off the bounce, finding teammates in tight windows, and attacking the rim without hesitation will make him an asset to any team looking for a high-energy, playmaking guard with no fear.

As John continues to sharpen his shooting and develop his midrange arsenal, expect him to become an even more lethal scoring option. His combination of work ethic, competitive toughness, and relentless drive points to a high ceiling, one where he can carve out a major impact at the next level while continuing to prove that the biggest heart often shines the brightest. Reminds me of my own catche, Its not the size of the dog you have to fear, if the size of fight in the dog that should strike the fear. Determination and grit are a huge driving force with John. Stay tuned to see how high he can fly.
