Kobi is a dynamic athlete who is a crafty scoring machine with a quick trigger. Kobi uses that silky smooth three-point bomb to draw defenders up close to slow him down, then uses his fierce handles and electric speed to blow right by them. Also, he can punish defenders with a wicked mid-range game. As a lefty, he poses a huge problem for any defender. And just when you think your closeout will limit him his amazing court vision delivers a jaw-dropping thread the needle dime. Kobi loves to pass the ball as much as shooting it, as he truly is a pass-first point guard who can get a bucket on his own, a true floor general who puts everybody in their position as a natural-born leader. Kobi is cool as a fan under pressure. In most games this AAU season Kobi was face-guarded and double-teamed, Kobi is also a menace and disrupter on defense.
As a Freshman, he consistently delivered double-doubles and was one of two freshmen who dressed for the state tournament. The most motivating thing that happened for Kobi was being a part of the state championship and every day on the scout team going against Jett Montgomery and Tylan Lewis. There were a lot of hard days but going against guys like that made him play in the AAU season a lot better. Kobi's goal for next season is to contribute even more since he has been spending a lot of time in the weight room to prepare for bigger and stronger guys at the varsity level. Also, do everything he can to support his teammates at INDY for another potential State Championship run. Kobi has been working hard to earn more Varsity playing time as a sophomore on a talented varsity basketball team. Kobi's personal goal is to make everyone better in practice and win a second state title. For AAU next season, Kobi wants to continue to play in big games against tough teams and has even considered playing up to 17u to play harder competition.
Playing AAU for the Tennessee Tigers, Kobi focused on improving his defense and keeping a consistent average of 20 points and 10 assists. His defensive goal was to pick up his man for 94 feet and keep his guy from scoring more than 10 pts per game. His last goal was to learn to communicate with coaches better and be the eyes on the floor for them.
What motivates Kobi the most is what people think about his height. It’s the Eye test, meaning his height and his appearance on paper, but once they see him play they are mesmerized and quickly realize that height doesn’t matter. Kobi likes being the reason that people change their minds about how tall a person has to be to play this game. Kobi also loves it when bigger guys try to face-guard or double-team him. Then before the end of the game, the coach has switched them out for someone else.
Kobi handles adversity on the court by not showing anybody how it affects him. One of the ways he beats it is by outworking it, turning up the intensity level, and pushing through it. Kobi uses it as fuel to make sure the next game or play is even better than all others. Another reason is if he shows emotions on the court while handling adversity, it will be something that holds him back from achieving the goal in mind.
A coach can expect Kobi to have a great attitude even while facing adversity. He always gives 110% effort. Also, Kobi will make his team better every day by going hard in practice and getting it done on the court. Kobi's goal in every practice is to outwork everyone there. Kobi takes directions well and he is very serious about getting better every day.
Kobi's dream is to play for the University of Kentucky and would love to play at the D1 level. Kobi also realizes everyone’s journey is different. He is open to playing at any division, for any school where his talents and hard work would be appreciated. And also, where he can get a good education.
My assessment is Kobi performs at a very high level. Underestimating him is an opponent's biggest mistake as he takes that personally. His work ethic and attitude causes him to excel by being determined to be the hardest worker on the floor at all times. Kobi believes because he is undersized he must work twice as hard. A trait you cannot teach. Kobi will thrive on any level if he keeps that fire, tenacity, sharp shooting, passing, and defensive swagger. If so, there is no ceiling for how high he can fly. Y’all gotta catch this young star in real-time.
