John is a scrappy three-level scorer who can heat up in a flash. John has a beautiful touch from three-point range but can slice his way into the lane for quick pull-ups or with a nasty first-step fierce finish at the rim. John's defense is ruthless as he makes steals look like taking candy from a baby and turning those steals into quick transition baskets for himself or his teammates.
John's biggest improvement from last season has been his footwork and confidence. John is still focusing on developing his defense and ball handling. John's biggest basketball accomplishment so far is scoring 17 points to win in a close MS championship game for his team and being named Offensive Player of the Year—the first-ever MS championship for Lipscomb since joining the HVAC.
John's goal for this upcoming season is to continue to develop more. The game John is looking forward to the most is Ensworth - they are one of their biggest rivals, and the games are always close.
What fires John up the most on the court is trash talk from opponents and large crowds. They motivate John to let his game shut them up, doing all the talking for him while feeding off the adrenaline rush from an electric crowd. John uses that energy as fuel to put on a show to keep it going.
John handles adversity by focusing n on his game and blocking out the adversity.
The best advice John has ever been given is, " You’re never as good as you think you are, and you’re never as bad as you think you are, and there is always someone working harder than you."
John's interests outside of basketball are video games, relaxing, being outside, and spending time with family.
John feels it's too early to tell what division level he will play but knows to achieve the goal of playing at any level will take working hard and playing with confidence.
I assess that Johnt's defensive swagger is really good, added to his shooting ability. John's potential is high, and he understands the work that opens doors, never being satisfied and staying hungry. John should have a solid upcoming season and has already validated he can go off offensively as when I watched him be one of the top shooters in-game action. We will keep a close eye on John to see how high he flies. Stay tuned.
