Bentley is an explosive dual-threat, two-way playmaker with good speed, and power, with an incredible football IQ that uses as a fierce weapon on both sides of the ball. Offensively Bentley feels like he is a dual-threat quarterback who is pretty comfortable in the pocket, but when it is time to run, his motor gets rolling. In the pocket, Bentley is like a fine surgeon carving up the defense with amazing field vision and anticipation as he sees the defense knowing how they react based on the defensive set he sees, a nice bonus of playing both sides. When he runs he uses that same knowledge to not only know when to go but where to read the lanes and holes he should hit.
Defensively Bentley likes to read other quarterbacks and attack the ball. He is like a missile hitting a target. This hard-hitting player wants to separate the ball from the player he is attacking. Bentley's height gives him even more of an advantage on jump balls, 5 of his 6 interceptions last year were jump balls.
What sets Bentley apart from playing QB is his play knowledge and ability to keep his guys focused on the next play. There are so many elements that go into being a QB, it’s not just showing up Friday nights and throwing a ball. It’s Everything from film study, knowing the reads, helping teammates, being the guy who shows up early and stays late, and all kinds of things on and off the field. His leadership is impressive. Before a snap, what helps Bentley is his wrestling teammates, our Bishop McCort wrestling program is one of the best in the country. They have State champs, National champs, and World Champs on that team. That helps when tackling a 240lb running back.
This past season Bentley had 30 tackles ( 25 solo, 5 assisted), 1 TLK for a loss), 6 INTs-59yds, adding 5 returns for 38 yards offensively, 5 receptions for 104 yards and 1 TD, and 9 carries for 22 yards. Those dazzling performances earned Bentley the #1 ranking for freshman in the state of PA and the 5th corner in the country. Bentley was also 1st team all-conference and All Area at CB. So far this 2024 season Bentley in 1 1/2 games (out due to concussion halfway through week 1, out all of week 2) at QB- 31/50 387 yards 3TD, Rushing 16 carries 120yards, and CB- 5 tackles, 3 targets 2 deflections. With 302 yards and 2 TDs.
Bentley's biggest improvement from last season was a team that brought in Coach Rich Price as his quarterback coach. He designs their pass plays and is the Co-Offensive Coordinator. For Bentley, he spent a lot of time training with 2006 Heisman winner Troy Smith, Jake Heaps, and the Elite 11 crew. Plus a 3-day quarterback camp at Clemson University. Bentley's overall game knowledge probably has improved the most.
The most motivational or inspiring thing from last year that will push Bentley forward is knowing how hard he has worked his entire life for the opportunity to play Varsity football and as a freshman last year Bentley's season matched his effort. Bentley took that momentum into the off-season.
What fuels Bentley's fire the most is he just loves to compete, it doesn’t matter if it’s a board game with his family, he is competitive. Having his teammates beside him on the field adds more fuel to the fire. Bentley and his team want a State playoff run.
Bentley's dad has talked a lot about the mindset of an athlete and how to handle adversity. Bentley feels like that’s one of his strengths- remaining calm and staying focused to make decisions. Sure nobody wants adversity, but when things go sideways, you have to keep emotions in check. Control what you can control and let the rest go.
A coach can expect every time Bentley takes the field 100% effort and a positive attitude. Bentley plays with confidence because he knows his coaches have him prepared.
Bentley's goal is to play at a Power 4 school and win a national championship. But Bentley would absolutely, consider a lower division level because he lives football, so as long as he has an opportunity to play he will be thrilled at any level. A great team “family” and the fan atmosphere would make a school stand out to Bentley, wanting to be around coaches and players who are truly interested in player development. Right now as a 16-year-old Bentley is really into team traditions- Bentley loves a Penn State whiteout or Clemson touching Howard’s Rock and running down the hill. Iowa players waving to the children’s hospital. Bentley is sure most schools have their traditions, who knows maybe that will play a factor.
The assessment is that this young star is developing into an absolute phenom and a monster on many levels. Before it's all said and done Bentley could very well be a program changer. Bentley is thriving on both sides of the ball at a high level. His potential is incredible and there is no ceiling or limit to how high he can fly. An intriguing athlete who could redefine the term athlete on the field as a new hybrid breed of versatility. Better
get this one locked in and track his journey. Great things are coming. Stay tuned!
