"Calm in the Storm, Fire in the Finish: The Engine Behind the Comeback Run"

When the ball finds Reid, the game doesn’t speed him up; it settles into his rhythm, where patience and control take over. He doesn’t chase highlights or force action; instead, he reads what’s in front of him and makes the right play time after time. Getting into the paint, playing off two feet, and drawing defenders in before making the right decision allows him to break a defense down piece by piece. That approach keeps everything connected, whether it’s finishing inside or creating open looks for teammates, and it keeps constant pressure on whoever is trying to slow him down.

Down 18 with everything going the wrong way, there was no panic when halftime hit, just a reset and a decision to lock in and give themselves a chance. What followed turned into one of the wildest comeback turnarounds you’ll see, as stops turned into fast breaks and confidence built with every possession. Reid stayed steady through it all, stepping into the moment with 20 points and making plays when it mattered most, especially after working through a first half where shots weren’t falling. Once those first three dropped, everything opened up, and he kept attacking within the flow instead of forcing anything, trusting the work and letting the game come back to him.

What made it even more impressive was how the run didn’t stop once they grabbed control, because there was no letting up or celebrating early. Communication stayed sharp, teammates held each other accountable, and the pressure kept building until the game was fully out of reach after a 56-20 run. That stretch rolled right into a strong weekend where they finished undefeated and placed second out of 92 teams, showing that it wasn’t just a moment but a level they could sustain. Reid’s growth as a leader stood out in that setting, becoming more vocal, more locked in, and more consistent against high-level competition.

His school season followed a similar path, built on efficiency, smart decisions, and finding ways to impact the game even when the shot count wasn’t high. Averaging around 10.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, shooting a blistering 61. 5 percent from the field and 39.7 percent from three, while earning All-Conference Second Team and All-District Honorable Mention, showed how he made the most of every opportunity, taking what the defense gave him and contributing in multiple ways. That same mindset carried over defensively, where he made it personal not to get beat, playing with physicality and discipline that added another dimension to his game and helped him stand out beyond scoring.

Moments throughout the season helped define that growth, including a game-winner against Olmsted Falls and strong performances against Avon and St. Ignatius, where his ability to stay composed and deliver in key situations showed up. The biggest test came in maintaining consistency through the highs and lows, and instead of letting off nights linger, he responded by getting back in the gym and staying focused on improving, building the mental toughness that separates players over time.

As he continues into AAU and beyond, the focus stays on proving he can impact the game consistently at a high level while competing on both ends every possession. Coaches can expect a player who brings effort, makes smart decisions, defends with purpose, and stays locked in on doing whatever it takes to win, all while continuing to push his game forward with more to show.

I assess that Reid is a composed, efficient guard who controls the game without forcing action. Excels at getting into the paint, making smart reads, and creating for both himself and teammates. Brings a strong defensive mindset with physicality and discipline, taking pride in not getting beat. Shows leadership qualities through consistency, communication, and stepping up in key moments.

As confidence and assertiveness continue to grow, his overall impact rises with it. His ability to stay poised, make winning plays, and contribute without needing high volume makes him valuable in multiple systems. Continued development as a scorer and maintaining that defensive edge will position him to take on bigger roles and draw attention at the next level. Stay tuned.
