Gavin is a high-IQ, gritty guard who brings poise, control, and confidence to every possession. He’s a smooth ball handler with a phenomenal feel for the game, always in the right spot and reading the floor two steps ahead. He sees plays before they unfold and breaks down defenders with composed decision-making. Whether he’s hitting a pull-up middy, knocking down a catch-and-shoot three, or making the right pass under pressure, Gavin makes winning plays that elevate his team. He shoots it with confidence and solid form, and he brings an underrated edge defensively, willing to get in passing lanes, take charges, and battle through tough assignments. The deeper the game gets, the more valuable he becomes. Coaches can count on him to play hard, listen, and execute whatever’s asked, especially when the game is on the line.
He played up this AAU season with the 2026 Midwest Flyers Daley team, challenging himself against older competition and steadily growing his confidence. That experience paid off. By the final tournament, he joined the Midwest Flyers 2027 team under Coach Chris Hicks and stood out immediately with how far his game had come. His biggest improvement this year has been his ball-handling and shot creation off the dribble. Now, he’s focused on attacking the rim with more consisten, learning how to better handle pressure as a primary ball-handler. Gavin played very limited minutes last season, playing on a team full of strong upperclassmen, but is poised for a breakout junior season. He's putting in the work, and he knows what’s coming, just like he predicted after helping Edgewood win the Capitol team camp following an early loss that sparked the fire.
Gavin is fired up when his team finds rhythm. He feeds off the energy of big plays, whether it’s his own or a teammate’s, and uses momentum as fuel. He handles adversity by staying present, always focused on the next shot, next game, next opportunity. The best coaching advice he’s ever received is, “The only shot that matters is the next one.” Off the court, he enjoys hanging out with friends and playing golf, but his focus this year is to help Edgewood surprise everyone.
I assess that Gavin’s mix of basketball IQ, shooting touch, and mental toughness makes him the type of guard coaches trust in big moments. He doesn’t try to do too much but makes smart, timely plays that lead to wins. As his confidence and frame grow, so will his impact.
Expect a breakout season ahead. Gavin’s playing experience against older competition and his drive to improve are starting to shine through. He’s a coachable competitor who’s ready to step into a bigger role, and he’s already proving that he’s ready for the moment. Stay tuned.
