Lamar DeVoe III

5’10, 150lbs, Class of 2027
Herschel V Jenkins HS, GA
Lamar is a tough, physical guard who thrives on doing the dirty work and outworking whoever lines up across from him. He brings a fierce two-way presence to the floor, exploding into his midrange spots, cutting without the ball for clean looks, and locking in on defense. He’s a coach’s dream that's vocal, unselfish, and reliable in pressure moments. His off-ball movement is instinctive and intentional, allowing him to take smart, high-percentage shots. But don’t let his efficient style fool you. Lamar brings serious energy on the defensive end, making plays that fuel his team and change momentum. He embraces contact, competes hard, and grinds every possession.
This past JV season, Lamar averaged 8.3 points, 1.5 assists, 2.3 steals, and 2–3 rebounds per game, showcasing growth in poise, handle, and confidence under pressure. His biggest improvement from last season is that he's now more composed, more decisive, and more effective at getting to his sweet spots. This offseason, his main goal is to become a stronger finisher through contact, rounding out his offensive game, and adding another level to his downhill attacks. Playing AAU with Georgia Ignites gave him the opportunity to test his new tools, and the results were promising, moves he worked on in training translated directly into live games. He’s now more confident using counters in the midrange and executing under pressure. What fires him up the most is when his team locks in on defense, everyone rotating and communicating like clockwork. That, to him, is basketball at its best.
Alongside Lamar at Jenkins is Class of 2026 guard Dominique Johnson, an elite shooter who can light it up well beyond the arc and punish defenders from mid-range as well. Johnson’s defensive motor is relentless, creating havoc with deflections and steals. The two make up a fierce backcourt presence at Jenkins, each bringing something different but equally impactful to the table.
I assess that Lamar’s court awareness, physicality, and work ethic set him apart. He doesn’t just play hard; he plays smart, finds the right lanes, stays disciplined, and impacts the game in ways that don’t always show up in the box score. His ability to move without the ball, take efficient shots, and anchor a defensive possession will fit seamlessly into any program built on toughness and execution.
Lamar is poised for a breakout year. With added strength, refined finishing ability, and growing confidence, expect him to become a dependable spark plug who leads by example. His ceiling continues to rise as he evolves every aspect of his game. He’s not just preparing for the next level; he’s building toward it every day. Stay tuned to see how high he flies.
