Committed to the University of Saint Francis

The dream of playing college basketball has become a reality for Tait Wentzel, who has officially committed to the University of Saint Francis, bringing his combination of scoring firepower, strength on the boards, rim-rocking throwdowns, and defensive toughness to the Cougars. For Tait, this commitment represents countless hours of work, dedication, and belief in what he could accomplish, but it also marks the beginning of another chapter with plenty left to prove. The talented forward has established himself as a force who can put points on the board, battle for rebounds, protect the rim, and make his teammates better, and now he's found a college program where he believes those abilities can make an impact.

Finding the right college home was about much more than just receiving an offer, and Saint Francis checked the boxes that mattered most to Tait. The positive things he'd heard about the campus, combined with the connection he developed with the coaching staff, made the decision feel right. What really caught his attention was the direction of the basketball program and the possibility of making an impact early in his college journey. With a younger roster and a head coach entering his second season, Tait sees a chance to compete, contribute, and grow with a program building toward something special. That combination of relationships, basketball potential, and confidence in the coaching staff helped turn Saint Francis from a college option into his future home.

The recruiting journey wasn't always smooth, and Tait understands firsthand how quickly things can change when you're chasing a dream. He described the process as a roller coaster filled with highs, lows, and situations that don't always work out the way a player hopes. Rather than allowing those moments to consume his attention, he found comfort in knowing he had options and kept his focus on playing basketball. That approach helped him navigate the uncertainty without losing sight of the work that mattered most. His experience also taught him that recruiting isn't a competition to see who receives attention first, because every coach evaluates players differently and looks for qualities that fit what their program needs.

Faith, family, and being surrounded by the right people have been important parts of Tait's journey, and the atmosphere at Saint Francis gave him another reason to feel comfortable with his decision. During his visit, he appreciated the environment throughout campus and the values he recognized within the coaching staff. He wanted more than a place to play basketball, and finding coaches he believes stand for the right things made the commitment even more meaningful. That sense of belonging gives him confidence as he prepares for the transition from Heritage Hills to college basketball.

While his college future is settled, Tait isn't ready to close the book on his high school basketball journey. In fact, there is unfinished business that means just as much to him as the commitment itself. His biggest goal is to keep playing deeper into March, capture a sectional championship, and experience the unforgettable feeling of cutting down the nets with his teammates. Individually, he has his goal is to join the 1,000-point club, but he understands that winning requires much more than scoring. He wants to continue making the hustle plays, battling on the boards, protecting the basket, and doing whatever his team needs to extend its season. The opportunity to finish his high school run with a championship gives him plenty of motivation heading into his final year.

His performances have already shown why Saint Francis has plenty to look forward to when he reaches campus. At Charlie Hughes, Tait put together an impressive stretch that included 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists against West Lafayette, followed by 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists against Center Grove. He continued that strong play with 32 points and 11 rebounds against Franklin Central before adding 22 points and 8 rebounds against Greenwood. Those four performances combined for 103 points and 37 rebounds, showing just how much damage he can do offensively while remaining a major factor on the boards. His production also included strong performances against Boonville and Jasper, where he scored 17 points in each contest, adding 5 rebounds against Boonville and 8 rebounds with 3 blocks against Jasper.

What makes Tait valuable goes beyond his ability to fill up the scoring column. His willingness to mix it up on the boards, challenge shots, finish with authority near the basket, and find teammates for quality looks gives him several ways to impact a game. He understands that a big rebound, a timely block, or an unselfish pass can be just as important as putting points on the board. That mindset is exactly what he intends to bring to Saint Francis, where coaches and fans can expect a player committed to working hard, improving his game, and doing the little things that help his team succeed.

For younger athletes chasing their own college basketball dreams, Tait offers advice built from personal experience. He encourages players to stop measuring their recruiting journeys against everyone else's and concentrate on becoming better basketball players. Seeing another athlete receive an offer or attention doesn't mean your own dream is slipping away, because different coaches recognize different strengths. His message is to trust your development, stay focused on improving, and understand that your journey doesn't have to look like anyone else's to be successful.

The commitment to Saint Francis is a tremendous accomplishment, but Tait still has a championship to chase, a scoring milestone within reach, and one final high school season to make unforgettable. The Cougars are getting a talented competitor who understands the importance of hard work, team basketball, and making an impact in ways that don't always receive the spotlight. For now, his heart remains with Heritage Hills and the pursuit of those sectional championship nets, while his future waits in Fort Wayne with a program he believes is the right home for his basketball journey.

Tait brings an impressive offensive combination of strength, finishing ability, and scoring versatility that makes him difficult to contain. His ability to score inside, attack the basket, and contribute as a passer gives his team valuable offensive options. His rebounding instincts and willingness to challenge opponents at the rim add another dimension to his game, making him a strong presence on both ends of the floor.

What stands out about Tait is his understanding that winning basketball requires much more than individual production. His team-first mentality, competitive edge, and commitment to improvement should serve him well as he prepares to transitions to the college game. With continued development and the confidence gained from competing against good competition, he has a strong foundation to become a valuable contributor for Saint Francis while helping the Cougars pursue their own championship goals.
