Haydn's game starts with energy, quick decisions, and a team-first mindset. He wants his teammates to trust him with the ball, his coaches to trust his intensity, and every possession to count. Whether he's taking an open shot, finding a teammate, or getting into position for a stop, Haydn is learning to play with confidence instead of letting hesitation make the decision for him.
Starting as a freshman gave Haydn a close look at what it takes to compete in high school basketball. Livingston Academy had a tough season, but he saw what the team could do when the ball moved, the defense got stops, and everyone played together. He wanted to string more of those possessions together through the postseason, even when the results didn't match the work they had put in.
That test shaped one of his biggest improvements. Haydn began trusting his preparation, recognizing when to shoot, and spotting an open teammate sooner. Making the All-District Freshman Team meant a great deal to him because it showed that the extra hours were paying off. When frustration set in during the season, support from his family, teammates, and coaches helped him return to practice ready to work and bring his best effort to the following game.
Those extra hours often come after a full day of school and practice. Haydn heads back to the gym at night to get shots up at game speed, sharpen his accuracy, and tighten his handles. He also takes pride in the work that happens without the ball: cutting at the right time, giving a teammate room to operate, and finding defensive positions that can lead to turnovers. He wants those details to help Livingston win however the team needs him.
At the NYBA Coach K Combine, Haydn showed what happens when that preparation meets a clear mind. He played with confidence against strong competition, took good shots, made quick choices, and stayed involved on both ends. In the Celtics’ 27–24 win, he finished with 6 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals. His shooting caught attention, but his willingness to listen, take coaching, and give full effort told just as much about what he brings to the court.
Haydn is working for a stronger season and hopes to earn the chance to play after high school. His love for basketball keeps him going, while the people beside him give him another reason to keep improving. Seeing a move he practiced late at night work in a game sends him back to the gym ready to build on it.
I assess that Haydn’s confidence is growing along with his decision-making. His combine performance showed a guard who can score, involve his teammates, and bring energy to defense without forcing the game.
Haydn’s quick decisions, movement without the ball, and defensive awareness give him ways to help Livingston even when his shot isn't falling. As his handles and shooting continue to sharpen, he can become a stronger scoring option while making the players beside him better. Stay tuned.
