"A Rainmaker’s Rise and a Sharpshooter on the Move"

Max Holsclaw,

6’0, 145lbs, Class of 2028

Ohio County HS, KY

Max simply needs a little space and a basketball to make an impact, and that ability has helped turn him into one of Kentucky's most dangerous outside threats. The sharp-shooting guard has built his game around a silky smooth touch, quick release, and the confidence to make tough shots look routine from beyond the arc. Whether he is spotting up, shooting off the catch, or making contested looks with defenders closing hard, Max has developed into the kind of player defenses must account for every second he is on the floor. His handles allow him to create opportunities when needed, while his court vision and passing continue to create easy scoring chances for teammates. Add in a high basketball IQ and a team-first approach, and it becomes easy to see why he continues to earn respect from coaches and opponents alike.

Last season, Max averaged 10 points per game while shooting a blistering 41 percent from three-point range. His biggest improvement was his shooting consistency, and the results showed as he finished among the top 15 players in Kentucky in made three-pointers as a sophomore. While many players would be satisfied with that kind of success, Max is already focused on the next step. His offseason work has focused on developing a stronger driving game and becoming more effective finishing through contact. His goal for the upcoming season is helping Ohio County win a district championship while continuing to expand his offensive game. One of the things he is looking forward to most is sharing more time on the floor with his younger brother Colt, creating special family moments while helping push the program forward.

What separates Max is not just his shooting ability but also his mindset. When adversity strikes, and shots are not falling, he refuses to let one miss affect the next opportunity. Instead of dwelling on mistakes, he immediately turns his attention to the next possession and visualizes the next shot finding the bottom of the net. That confidence allows him to stay aggressive, trust his work, and continue attacking throughout the game. The ability to move on from mistakes is a powerful weapon that often separates good players from great ones.

Max also draws energy from seeing his teammates succeed. Nothing fires him up more than watching everyone contribute, seeing shots fall across the lineup, and watching the team lock in defensively. That team-first approach speaks volumes about the type of player and teammate he is becoming. Individual success matters, but winning and helping the group succeed remain at the center of everything he does.

I assess that Max is a lethal perimeter weapon whose shooting can completely change the flow of a game in a hurry. His combination of shot-making, ball handling, passing, and basketball IQ makes him much more than just a spot-up shooter. As his attacking game continues to develop, he becomes an even tougher matchup because defenders will no longer be able to simply run him off the three-point line and feel comfortable. His confidence, work ethic, and team-first mentality provide a strong foundation for continued growth.

Max is the kind of guard every coach loves having on the floor because he stretches defenses, makes smart decisions, and understands how to play winning basketball. His ability to make shots from deep stretches defenses, opening opportunities for both himself and teammates. With continued growth attacking the basket and finishing through contact, Max has all the tools to become one of the more dangerous offensive guards in the region. The shooting is already a serious weapon, but the rest of his game is quickly catching up. As that development continues, expect his impact and reputation to keep rising right alongside his production. Stay tuned.
