Jude Harmon has built his game around faith, fierce competitiveness, and a desire to impact every inch of the court, and makes it clear where everything begins for him. He gives all glory to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, carrying that belief with him while developing into a three-level scoring weapon who can rain in threes, attack the midrange, finish around the rim, and turn up the heat defensively. Jude doesn't want holes anywhere in his game, and that hunger has driven him to become more complete every time he steps on the court.
Last school season gave Jude plenty to celebrate while also leaving behind a painful ending that poured more fuel on his fire. His team won the Vienna Tournament, Jude earned tournament MVP honors, and he joined the 1,000-point club before a run to the regional championship ended with a heartbreaking two-point loss. Instead of allowing that defeat to linger, he carried it straight into the offseason as another reason to work harder and chase more.
A major change followed when Jude prayed about his future and made the decision to transfer to St. Mary in Paducah, Kentucky. The move gave him a new home where he has spent plenty of time in the gym, while his summer continued with SI Select on the AAU circuit. That run turned into a dream when SI Select captured the AAU World Championship at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, giving Jude another major achievement during a summer packed with basketball.
Summer school ball kept the competition rolling as St. Mary faced strong teams and played in good events that gave Jude another chance to sharpen his game. Coach Denson put the group in front of tough competition, and Jude continued using those games to grow comfortable with his new teammates while preparing for everything ahead.
Then came the Next Up Recruits Showcase, where Jude walked into the gym and absolutely caught fire from beyond the arc. He rained in 7 threes on his way to 23 points, showed off his middy game and even threw down two dunks as his growing athleticism jumped into the spotlight. Once he watched a couple of shots fall, the confidence started flowing, and his aggression followed as he found his rhythm and kept letting it fly.
That confidence comes directly from his faith because Jude believes Jesus Christ gives him the peace to play without worrying about what comes next. He trusts the work he's put in, trusts God through every moment, and lets that combination free him to attack the game with confidence. His showcase performance became another example of what can happen when his shooting catches fire, and the rest of his offensive arsenal begins rolling with it.
His focus might have been even more impressive than the shooting because Jude became so locked into one possession that he stepped directly on my foot along the sideline and never even realized it happened. He was completely dialed into what was happening on the court, blocking everything else out while keeping his attention on the possession in front of him. That concentration comes from countless hours of preparation and his faith, giving him the ability to stay centered even when everything around him is moving.
While his offense can grab attention quickly, Jude believes his biggest improvement has actually come on defense. He already took pride in guarding, but his work throughout the offseason has pushed that side of his game much further as he chases his goal of becoming a true lockdown defender. His athleticism has also taken a major jump, adding more bounce to a game that already had plenty of scoring fire.
The grind behind that improvement starts long before most students begin their day because Jude wakes up at 5:15 in the morning to get shots up before school. His work continues after classes with team workouts and scrimmages before he finishes the day in the weight room. Those hours show just how serious he is about becoming the best version of himself as a basketball player, student, and young man growing stronger in his faith.
Losing is something Jude can't stand, and that competitive edge keeps pushing him through early mornings, long workouts, and demanding days. He wants to maximize everything God has given him while also bringing the people around him along for the journey. That mindset carries into his effort because coaches can expect him to compete hard, hustle, and pour everything he has into every trip onto the court.
Defense remains the most underrated part of Jude’s arsenal because he refuses to be known only for putting points on the board. He wants to shut people down on the other end while bringing the same intensity that powers his offensive attack. That two-way mentality gives his game another dimension and matches his offseason mission of becoming a complete player without an obvious weakness to attack.
The upcoming season brings goals that stretch well beyond individual numbers for Jude because his first priority is continuing to grow closer to Jesus while helping others strengthen their relationship with Him. On the basketball side, he wants to compete at the highest level he can reach while helping St. Mary pile up wins and develop great chemistry together. With Griffin Mayes, Silas Kreuter, Ja’cobi Nicoles, Jack Griffith, and a talented group around him, Jude believes the pieces are there for St. Mary to have a special season if everyone comes together.
I assess that Jude brings a dynamic three-level scoring arsenal that can light up a gym quickly, especially when those quick-trigger threes begin raining. His midrange touch, improved bounce, and ability to finish give defenders several problems to solve, while his growth defensively adds another dangerous layer to his attack. His commitment to becoming a lockdown defender shows there is much more driving his game than scoring alone.
What separates Jude’s journey is the foundation underneath everything he's chasing, with faith guiding his confidence and a relentless competitive spirit powering the daily grind. His early-morning shooting sessions, team workouts, weight training and dedication to improving his athleticism show a player unwilling to settle with what he already does well. The combination of fearless shot-making, defensive toughness, stronger explosion, and unwavering belief gives Jude a chance to make plenty of noise at St. Mary while chasing wins with the same passion he brings to every possession. Stay tuned.
