Matyas is the kind of player who leaves fingerprints all over the game. He is a guard with electric length and versatility, he is the definition of a dynamic two way force capable of controlling the game with his scoring, energy, and leadership. His offensive arsenal is deep, as he can rain threes from deep with a smooth touch, pull up off the dribble with balance, and attack the rim with fearless intent. His court vision and passing ability shine under pressure, threading pinpoint dimes through tight windows to teammates. Whether operating as a floor general or a scoring weapon, Matyas mixes poise with aggression, and his versatile athleticism allows him to create separation and finish through contact.

Defensively, he is a nightmare for opposing guards. His anticipation and length make him a defensive anchor, racking up deflections, intercepting passes, and protecting the rim from both perimeter and paint. He thrives in transition, turning defense into offense with lightning-fast reactions that ignite fast breaks and lift team momentum. Coaches rave about his intensity and communication, and teammates feed off his motor. Even when matched against top-tier scorers, Matyas takes pride in shutting them down, frustrating opponents with his relentless on-ball presence and ability to alter shots from behind.

Last season, Matyas showcased just how complete his game has become. Averaging 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block per game while getting 10 deflections per game, he checked every box. His season highs were eye-catching: 34 points, 11 rebounds, 6 steals, and 3 blocks. Even after suffering an ankle avulsion fracture in January, he returned ahead of schedule to finish the season, embodying toughness and commitment. That setback fueled a new level of confidence and understanding as he learned that true belief in his ability changes outcomes and energizes his team.

This offseason, Matyas is locked in on building strength and adding muscle through focused nutrition and training. He is working to develop his off-hand dribbling and expand his scoring versatility, ensuring he remains an all-around threat. His biggest improvement from last season came in his strength, decisiveness, and vertical explosiveness, traits that continue to separate him from others in his class. As captain, he sets the tone with energy, effort, and unselfish leadership, proving that his impact goes far beyond the box score.

For Border Select Basketball, Matyas has been a key weapon, scoring from deep, attacking the lane, and finding open teammates under pressure. His length makes him difficult to contain, and his high motor keeps defenses guessing. Even when facing adversity, he returns to fundamentals, letting his defense reignite his offense. His mindset is simple yet powerful, focus on the next play and never let negativity take root.

Off the court, Matyas loves music, gaming with friends, hunting, movies, and spending time with his family, and, of course, his dog, Meeko. Those close to him describe him as loyal, fun, and always willing to help others.

I assess that Matyas is a complete backcourt player whose skill set translates easily to the next level. His combination of size, length, shooting range, and defensive motor gives him the tools to thrive in any system. Coaches can expect a high-IQ leader who competes at full throttle, communicates, and raises the energy of everyone around him.

Expect Matyas to continue rising as one of Wisconsin’s most dynamic Class of 2026 guards. With his growing frame, improved strength, and relentless work ethic, his ceiling is sky high. He is the kind of player who changes the tone of a game and the culture of a team with effort, heart, and versatility. Stay tuned for a breakout season ahead.
