Porter can change the flow of a game with a sudden shooting burst, but his impact begins well before the ball reaches his hands. He brings energy to the floor, looks for chances to ignite a run, and backs up his scoring with determined defense. On a loaded Bearden team last season, Porter learned to make his minutes matter by raining in threes and giving his teammates a lift when they needed one. That experience has helped him grow more comfortable in big moments, and he intends to play with greater confidence as his role expands.
Porter wants to give Bearden whatever the game demands from him. One night, that could mean hitting the shots that stretch a lead or turn a game in Bearden’s favor; on another, it could mean battling for rebounds and giving his team another chance to score. His growing size has been his biggest improvement since last season, and he is learning to use it to be more effective in those physical moments.
His summer reinforced his belief in what a connected team can accomplish. Playing on the UA Rise circuit, Porter’s team went 9–3 while he averaged 14 points per game. Those games showed him that his group could compete with strong opponents, and they gave him more opportunities to bring his scoring touch and confidence to the floor.
Porter’s growth has come from steady work that continues after practice ends. He's stayed consistent in the weight room as he works toward his desired weight, and he gets shots up wherever he can, whether that means training at home or heading to a gym. That routine is helping him bring more strength and reliability to a game that can catch fire at any moment.
His passing may be the most overlooked part of what he brings to the court. When defenders pay attention to his shot, Porter looks for the open teammate and makes the pass that gives his team a better opportunity. He wants to help his team return to the state tournament and perform at a high level, while pushing himself to earn All-District or All-Region recognition.
I assess that Porter gives Bearden an offensive spark who can lift his team with timely shooting, active defense, and a willingness to contribute where the game needs him. His increased comfort in demanding moments should help him make fuller use of his expanded role.
Porter’s shooting touch, improving physicality, and vision as a passer give him several ways to impact a possession. As he continues building strength and using his size, he has the potential to become a more complete contributor on both ends of the floor. Stay tuned.
