His school season backed that up in a big way. Leading his 7th-grade team in points, rebounds, steals, and blocks while helping them lose only 2 games all year says everything about his dominance. That kind of production across the board isn’t common, especially at that age. Those numbers matter, but what stands out even more is winning along with teammates he genuinely enjoys playing with. That bond shows up in how hard he plays and how much he pours into every game.

Then came the breakout moment that turned heads. His first real run in competitive AAU basketball turned into a statement weekend. Averaging 27 points and 13 rebounds, leading his squad to a 4-0 run, and walking away with MVP wasn’t by accident. His defense sparked it all. Turning steals into points, forcing turnovers, and flipping momentum in seconds. That energy on defense fed everything else, and once the rhythm hit, there was no slowing it down.

That performance opened doors fast. What started as a local AAU run turned into opportunities with bigger programs, including a pickup with The Herd out of the Grand Rapids area. That decision wasn’t random. It was about aligning with coaches who have built something strong and bringing together players with the same mindset of competing hard, playing tough, and being dominant. That’s exactly what Brooksten brings every time he steps out there.

And the grind isn’t limited to basketball. He’s also running track, leading his team in the high jump, and the 400. That combination of sports is building a different level of athleticism, speed, and endurance. Balancing both while playing for two basketball teams isn’t easy, but it’s a challenge he’s embracing head-on.

What fuels it all goes deeper than the court. Every time he plays, there’s a commitment to giving everything he has. No shortcuts. No off switches. That mindset is rooted in his faith, living by Colossians 3:23 and carrying that belief into how he trains, competes, and handles himself daily.

Growth is already showing in real ways. One of the biggest improvements in his game has been expanding beyond relying on size. Developing his left hand, finding new ways to score, and stepping into tougher competition against older and stronger players have pushed him forward. Those open gym runs at the high school level have forced adjustments, and he’s responding by adding more layers to his game.

At the core of it all is a simple goal. Help his teams win. Do whatever it takes, now and in the future. That mindset shows up in every sprint, every rebound, every extra effort play that doesn’t always show on the stat sheet but changes the game.

Looking ahead, the work isn’t slowing down. He’s already in the weight room with his brother, building strength and chasing that next level of explosiveness. The goal is to elevate his vertical, finish above the rim consistently, and keep pushing toward becoming a complete athlete. There’s also the dream of playing both football and basketball at the next level, something that will take serious work, but he’s not backing away from it. He understands time will shape that decision, and he’s ready to keep earning every opportunity. This is just the beginning of something that’s building fast.
