"The Relentless Difference Maker Who Does Whatever It Takes To Win"

Trent Berg

6'3, Class of 2027

Luther HS, WI

Trent is the type of player who figures out exactly what his team needs and then attacks that role with everything he has. If the matchup favors him, he can score the basketball and create pressure on a defense. If a tougher defender is assigned to him, he is just as comfortable doing the little things that help teams win by setting screens, cutting hard, moving without the ball, and creating opportunities for teammates. That willingness to adapt makes him a difficult matchup because his impact goes far beyond points. He plays with a team-first mentality, competes with toughness, and understands how to affect winning in multiple ways every time he steps on the floor.

That complete game was on full display at the Playmakers Ball Till You Fall Showcase where Trent stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. After a slow start in the opening quarter, he settled into the game and began taking advantage of favorable matchups. With teammates consistently finding him in great spots, Trent found his groove and became a force on both ends of the floor. His double-double performance showcased the versatility that has become a trademark of his game.

His growth over the last year did not happen overnight. Entering his junior season, Trent was still figuring out what kind of player he could become. A strong AAU season gave him confidence heading into the winter, but once the season started and he stepped into a leadership role, everything began to change. Confidence became the driving force behind his development. That confidence helped him average 10.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game while earning Honorable Mention All Coulee Conference recognition. More importantly, it allowed him to trust his abilities and become a player his teammates could rely on every night.

One of the biggest improvements in his game has been attacking the basket and finishing through traffic. Trent believes that when he trusts his matchup and plays aggressively, he can consistently get downhill and create scoring opportunities. The confidence shown by his coaches played a big role in that growth as well. Knowing the coaching staff believed in him helped fuel his belief in himself, and that combination elevated his game throughout the season.

As a dual-sport athlete, Trent has learned valuable lessons that carry over to basketball. One of the biggest is understanding that losing is part of competition. Playing for a smaller private school often means facing larger schools and difficult schedules, creating adversity on a regular basis. Instead of backing down from those situations, Trent has learned to embrace them, compete through them, and keep moving forward. That mindset has helped shape him into a tougher and more resilient competitor.

His transition back into AAU basketball with WI Playmakers has been an enjoyable one. Having played with the organization since before his freshman year, Trent has built strong relationships with coaches and teammates over the years. The faster pace of AAU basketball fits his style well, and he has enjoyed continuing to develop while competing alongside players he has shared countless practices, games, and road trips with.

When thinking on his favorite moments from the past year, Trent points to the relationships built along the way. The bus rides, practices, team bonding, and watching teammates improve stand out just as much as anything that happened during a game. Those experiences helped make the season memorable and reinforced why he loves competing.

Looking ahead, Trent has set his sights on becoming a more consistent three-point shooter. He knows that improvement will require plenty of extra work, but he is ready for the challenge. He also hopes to move from Honorable Mention status to First Team or Second Team All-Conference while helping Luther make a deep postseason run. Beyond high school, his goal is to earn an opportunity to continue playing at the collegiate level.

The one thing coaches can always expect from Trent is heart. Every time he steps on the floor, he competes with passion, effort, and a willingness to do whatever is necessary to help his team succeed. As his senior season approaches, expect a more confident player, a stronger leader, and someone determined to leave everything he has on the court while chasing a special final season.

I assess that Trent's versatility is one of his biggest strengths. He understands how to impact the game without needing the ball in his hands at all times and consistently finds ways to help his team win. His rebounding, willingness to do the dirty work, basketball IQ, and ability to adapt to different situations make him a valuable piece on any roster.

With another offseason dedicated to improving his outside shooting and continuing to build confidence, Trent has the tools to take another huge step forward as a senior. His toughness, leadership, and all-around contributions give him the ability to impact games in a variety of ways. Expect him to be a key piece for Luther next season while continuing to pursue opportunities to play at the next level. Stay tuned.
