6’1, 210lbs, Class of 2026

Buena HS, AZ

Few players in Arizona are the definition of a relentless defensive leader quite like Cooper Kraus. He is a powerhouse at linebacker. Cooper blends ferocious physicality with one of the sharpest football minds in the state. Every snap is calculated, every read intentional. He’s not just reacting, but anticipating. Whether facing heavyweight opponents or high-octane offenses, Cooper’s instinct, speed, and toughness separate him from everyone else on the field. He diagnoses plays with surgeon-like precision, reading formations and tendencies before the ball is even snapped, then attacks with punishing force. He’s that rare linebacker who can outthink a quarterback and outmuscle a lineman in the same play. Coaches should know what they’re getting: intelligence, command, and a motor that never slows down every time he steps on the field

Through the first half of the 2024 season, Cooper has been a terror for opposing offenses, racking up 93 total tackles with 15 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 7 pass breakups, 9 hurries, 3 fumble recoveries, and a defensive touchdown. He leads his region in tackles for the second straight year, a testament to both his preparation and execution. His growth this season has come from increased size, strength, and speed, attributes that have made him more explosive in the box and sharper in pass coverage. Whether it’s diagnosing guard pulls or adjusting to two-way blocking schemes, his film study and football IQ keep him a step ahead. He’s the kind of linebacker who adapts midgame, breaking down patterns, adjusting his angles, and locking down whatever weakness an offense tries to exploit.

Now in the back stretch of the season, Cooper’s leadership is as vital as his production. As team captain, he’s focused on rallying his brothers through a brutal schedule, reminding them that every tough matchup has prepared them for dominance when it matters most. His message is, stay disciplined, stay physical, and attack every play with everything you have. Injuries have tested their depth, but Cooper’s confidence hasn’t wavered. He knows the chemistry, bond, and shared battle scars his team has built will fuel them toward a playoff run. With fall break providing rest and recovery, he’s locked in on film sessions, team gatherings, and recovery work, turning preparation into a weapon. And when asked if he can turn it up even more, his answer was, “I can always turn it up.”

Even as his state-leading numbers continue to climb, Cooper doesn’t chase stats. He chases impact. Whether he plays all four quarters or sits out the second half of a blowout, his focus is on winning and setting the standard for effort. He’s driven by his teammates, many of whom he’s played beside since he was five years old. That brotherhood fuels his fire and keeps him grounded in what matters most, doing his job, every play, every down. He’s carried that mentality through every level of football, leading every team he’s ever played for in tackles.

Despite his dominance, Cooper remains grounded and hungry. He knows he’s underrecruited, but he refuses to let that define him. He’s been proactive, sending out film, posting on X, emailing coaches, and staying consistent in the weight room. And it’s paying off. With multiple offers from programs like Arizona Christian, Ottawa, and Calumet, along with daily messages from coaches across all levels, Cooper’s stock continues to rise. His goal isn’t just to get noticed, but to find a home where his work ethic and leadership can thrive, where the locker room feels like family, and where winning is built on love, effort, and trust.

And when it comes to sending a message to the rest of Arizona football, Cooper doesn’t mince words. “Light them up,” he says. “Every play, do your job. Discipline. Make them remember your name.” That’s not just talk, but a standard. He embodies the idea that effort wins games and toughness wins respect. Each time he lines up, he plays for something bigger than himself: his team, his coaches, his family, and the legacy of Buena football.

Cooper Kraus isn’t just a linebacker, but the embodiment of heart, grit, and relentless command. When the lights hit, and the whistle blows, one thing is certain, whoever lines up across from him better be ready for a battle they won’t forget.
