"The Board-Crashing Sniper With a Winning Edge"

Jai Jegede

@jaijegede2

6'5, Class of 2027

Cherokee Trail HS, CO

Jai has built his game around doing whatever it takes to help his team win. A natural sharpshooter with deep range, he spaces the floor, attacks the glass with purpose, and never forces the action. If defenders run him off the three-point line, he has no problem attacking off the bounce and finishing at the rim. His unselfish approach allows him to make the extra pass when the opportunity is there, while his size and versatility let him impact the game on both ends of the floor. Whether he is making shots, battling for rebounds, or defending multiple positions, Jai brings an all-around game that continues to grow every season.

The past year has been anything but ordinary. Because of the transfer rule, Jai was forced to watch his high school team from the sidelines, and the season came to an end just one day before he became eligible to play. It was a frustrating situation that no competitor wants to experience, but instead of letting it slow his progress, he shifted his focus to getting better every single day. That work has paid off during the AAU season with Colorado Collective, where the team has enjoyed a strong summer and earned a spot in the Pro16 Finals. Along the way, Jai delivered one big performance after another, including a dominant 24-point, 20-rebound showcase in the Section 7 Championship game and another impressive 20-point game at Colorado Live that showcased his ability to score from all three levels while making plays all over the floor.

One of the biggest changes in Jai's game has come on the defensive end. He admits there was a time when defense wasn't something he enjoyed, but that mindset has completely changed. Now he embraces the challenge of guarding the other team's best players and takes pride in making life difficult for them. That growth has helped turn him into an even more complete player because his impact is no longer measured only by points, but by the energy, toughness, and versatility he brings on every possession.

Winning the Section 7 Championship stands above every other accomplishment so far. Bringing home that title was a surreal moment and a reward for the countless hours of work invested throughout the year. It was the type of experience every player dreams about and one that only fueled his hunger to chase even bigger goals moving forward.

When the matchup features nationally known or highly ranked players, Jai's approach never changes. He doesn't get caught up in rankings or reputations because his only focus is winning the game. He attacks every opponent with the same mindset, competes every possession, and is willing to do whatever his team needs to come away with a victory. That steady mentality allows him to stay locked in regardless of who is standing across from him.

This offseason is focused on tightening his ball-handling while continuing to expand every other part of his game. Jai believes improving his handles will make everything else even more dangerous, allowing him to create more scoring opportunities and become even harder to defend. His immediate goal is to finish his AAU career by winning the Pro16 Finals and putting Colorado basketball back on the national stage. Once high school begins, he wants to help Cherokee Trail accomplish things the program has never done by reaching the Coliseum, winning the league, competing for a state championship, and leaving a lasting mark before moving on to a successful college career.

Basketball is part of Jai's daily routine because there is never a day when he is not finding a way to improve. Whether it is spending thirty minutes working on his handles or putting together a full two-hour workout, he makes sure every day includes meaningful work. At the same time, he understands the importance of recovery, giving his body the rest it needs so he can continue performing at a high level. That balance between hard work and smart preparation has become a big reason for his steady improvement.

Cherokee Trail fans have plenty to be excited about. Jai believes this season will be filled with energy, exciting basketball, and plenty of wins as the team looks to build something special together. With his expanding all-around game, competitive mindset, and desire to keep improving, he is ready to help lead the way every time he steps on the floor.

I assess that Jai's ability to stretch the floor, rebound, defend multiple positions, and play with a team-first mentality makes him a valuable two-way wing. His improved defensive mindset, strong motor, and willingness to impact the game in several ways continue to raise his overall value, and as his ball-handling develops, his offensive game should become even more complete.

Jai continues to trend upward because he combines production with winning habits. He competes with confidence, never backs away from big moments, and stays focused on helping his team succeed instead of chasing individual attention. With his skill set, work ethic, and goals still in front of him, he is positioned to make an even bigger impact during his upcoming high school season. Stay tuned.
