On the other side of the football, the heartbeat of the defense once again belongs to Duke commit Parker Newman. Last season, he piled up 117 tackles, including 8 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 4 interceptions, including 3 pick-6s and 2 forced fumbles, while helping lead one of Tennessee's stingiest defenses. He also had plenty of offensive fireworks with 39 catches for 532 yards and 8 touchdowns. Another huge piece returning to the Bears is Zach Banks, whose versatility continues to strengthen both sides of the football. Banks earned First Team Region 1-5A honors after producing 35 catches for 401 yards and 5 touchdowns on offense. Defensively, he was equally productive with 66 tackles, 8 pass breakups, 2 interceptions, and a forced fumble. His ability to stretch the field offensively while making game-changing plays in the secondary gives Sevier County another dangerous weapon capable of flipping momentum in an instant.

Alexis Martinez quietly became one of the team's most dependable contributors last season. Defensively, he collected 34 tackles and 2 interceptions while consistently making smart plays around the football.
