Mathers is a wing with length, handle, and a drive to be better every day. He’s most effective attacking off the dribble and can get into his midrange game, create looks at the rim, and kick out when the defense collapses. He isn’t flashy, but he sees the floor and plays with intention. Right now, he's working to become more physical on both ends and stay aggressive with his shot when opportunities come. The focus has been on building confidence, becoming more consistent on defense, and trusting his own game. What separates Mathers is his self-awareness, he knows he’s not a finished product, but he’s putting in real effort to close the gap.

This past season, Mathers averaged 6.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, signs of value and blue-collar impact. The biggest improvement was his confidence and strength, which allowed him to handle more contact, make better decisions off the bounce, and become a more reliable scoring option. Not making All-Conference lit a fire in him. It wasn’t the result he wanted, but it sparked a hunger to outwork everyone this offseason. He’s now playing with UTC Fire and will be attending the WBCA June Jam in Appleton, a key event where he plans to showcase growth and absorb everything he can to bring back to school ball.

Next season will be a proving ground. Mathers wants to show he belongs in bigger conversations, not just on his team but in his region. He’s looking to become a trusted option on offense, take on more defensive assignments, and possibly put himself on the radar for college looks. The losses he’s taken fuel him most; he’s tired of them, and he’s ready to be a difference-maker in turning things around. When facing adversity, he looks to his coaches and teammates to help him work through it, showing a willingness to learn and adjust.

The best advice he’s ever received was, "Trust yourself." It’s been a mental shift, one that’s helping him step out of the shadows and into a larger role. Off the court, Mathers still keeps it basketball-focused, staying in the gym and locked in on his goals.

I assess that Mathers is a forward who offers length, solid instincts, and a team-oriented mindset with potential. If he continues to grow stronger and elevate his aggression, he could be a valuable rotational piece who contributes on both ends and evolves into a trusted scorer for Spencer.

His potential is tied directly to his work ethic, and right now, the desire is real. If Mathers continues evolving physically and mentally, he has a chance to surprise some people next season. His role may not be flashy, but it could be one that really matters to his team’s success. Stay tuned to see just how high he flies.
