"Microwave Mode: The Heat Check Killer Who Can Flip a Game in Seconds"

Grayson Burton

6’5, Class of 2028

Madison Central HS, KY

Grayson stepped into this season already knowing what time it was. The confidence wasn’t something that showed up midway through; it was there from the jump. He knew he was ready, and then he went out and proved it every single night. Averaging 18.6 points on a loaded 23-2 squad while shooting 49.8% from the field, a blosterimg 40% from three, and 80% from the line, he didn’t just produce, he controlled games. Add in 5.6 rebounds a night, and you get a player who wasn’t just scoring, but impacting winning across the board.

Grayson is a problem because of how fast everything can change when he gets rolling. One moment the game feels under control, the next he’s hit three, four shots in a blink and flipped the entire momentum. That ability to heat up instantly and stretch a defense makes him dangerous in a way most defenders aren’t built to handle. You can play him tight, and he’ll attack, give him space, and it’s over before you can react. When he finds that rhythm, it’s a wrap.

What makes it even tougher is that it’s not just offense. When he locks in defensively, he brings energy that shifts everything. Length, intensity, and competitiveness all show up, and it fuels the rest of his game. That two-way presence is what separates him from just being a scorer and turns him into a true match-up nightmare.

The season wasn’t without its moments, though. Right before a regional semifinal, one of their key players went down with an ACL injury, and everything changed. The number one-ranked team suddenly got hit with adversity at the worst time, and it showed. The loss that followed was tough, but what stood out was how Grayson responded. No waiting around, no excuses, he got right back to work the very next day and added 12 pounds of muscle, turning frustration into fuel.

Behind the scenes, the work was constant. Late nights, extra shots, putting in the time when nobody was watching. That’s where the consistency came from. That’s where the confidence stayed sharp. That’s why when the lights came on, everything looked natural.

One of the defining moments of the season came in a statement win over Covington Catholic, snapping a 20-game streak and proving exactly what that group was capable of. That wasn’t just a win, that was a message. The energy, the intensity, and the way they showed up in that environment said everything about who they were.

When postseason play came, the game changed. Faster, more physical, every possession carrying weight. That’s where Grayson’s game translated. He didn’t back away from it; he embraced it. The moment grew bigger, and he met it head-on, continuing to produce and compete when it mattered most.

Now that momentum has carried straight into AAU, and it’s already loud. Running with Tennessee Impact, he’s wasted no time making his presence felt, dropping 23 in one game and following it up with strong all-around performances, including a 19-point outing where he rained in three triples and helped break open a tight game into a runaway. The pace, the space, and the freedom of the AAU game have unlocked even more of his ability, especially attacking downhill with strength and purpose.

He’s evolving right in front of everyone by getting stronger, more aggressive, and more complete. And he’s not hiding it either. His exact words are...

“I want people to know that I’m coming and it’s gonna get scary very soon.”

I assess that Grayson is a high-level scoring wing with size, efficiency, and the ability to take over games in bursts. His shooting consistency, combined with his rebounding and defensive energy, makes him a complete impact player. He brings confidence, toughness, and production that translates directly to winning.

As he continues to build strength and expand his ability to attack off the bounce, his game will keep rising. His scoring ability, along with his improving physicality and defensive presence, gives him a strong foundation moving forward. With his current pace, he is becoming one of the more dangerous and complete players in his class. Get your popcorn ready, cause this is must-see TV. Stay tuned, Grayson is just warming up.
