Apollo is building his game one step at a time, and every season has added another layer to what he brings to the floor. Already known as a lethal shooter with unlimited range, he has worked hard to become much more than a perimeter threat. His confidence continues to rise, his offensive bag keeps expanding, and his determination to become a complete three-level scorer is showing up every time he steps on the court. There is no rush in his approach because he understands that steady growth creates lasting results, and that mindset has helped him keep moving forward with purpose.
His high school season was an important learning experience as he adjusted to the speed and physicality of varsity basketball, averaging 10 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. Instead of simply surviving those moments, he embraced the challenge and used every game as another opportunity to grow. Once the postseason arrived, his attention shifted toward getting stronger while attacking the weaknesses in his game on both ends of the floor. That work carried straight into the AAU season with BTS SA, where everything began coming together. His confidence reached another level, his scoring became more versatile, and he started finding different ways to impact games beyond just shooting the basketball. That progress showed during a recent AAU weekend, when he averaged 14.5 points, 2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and a steal, continuing to prove he was becoming the complete offensive weapon he set out to be. His biggest moment came during Game 1 of Session 1 on the P32 circuit against Max Levels Dallas when he caught fire from long range, rained in 7 three-pointers, and exploded for 28 points in one of his most memorable performances. More important than the scoring was what it represented because he accomplished the biggest goal he set before AAU, taking another major step toward becoming a true three-level scorer.
The biggest improvement in his game has been his ability to consistently get to his spots instead of allowing defenders to dictate where he goes. That may not always show up on the stat sheet, but it creates open looks, better decisions, and more confidence throughout the game. As his footwork, pace, and timing continue to improve, everything else begins to open naturally, making him even more difficult to contain.
Apollo has also learned how to turn adversity into motivation. He admits he hasn't always been the most athletic player on the floor, but instead of allowing that to become an excuse, he used it as fuel to elevate other parts of his game. He learned how to create space, score with skill instead of relying on athleticism, and find ways to help his team defensively through positioning, effort, and basketball IQ. That willingness to adapt has helped shape both his game and his mindset.
The work behind the scenes tells the rest of the story. Apollo spends four to five days a week in the weight room, focused on becoming stronger and more explosive, while making 200 shots off the bounce every day to keep expanding his offensive game. His offseason priorities are to continue working to gain weight, improve his athleticism, and become an even more complete scorer. Every workout has extra meaning because the motivation goes far beyond basketball. Every time he steps onto the court, he plays to make his brother and his entire family proud, giving every possession a purpose that reaches much deeper than the final score.
When coaches watch Apollo compete, they can expect a leader, a hardworking teammate, and a high-IQ guard who values winning as much as individual success. He understands the importance of making the right play, communicating with teammates, and bringing consistent effort every time his number is called. Those qualities continue to earn trust while making him a valuable presence on both ends of the floor.
Looking ahead, Apollo has set meaningful goals for himself and his team. Individually, he wants to earn First Team All-District honors while continuing his evolution into a complete three-level scorer. As a team, the mission is even bigger because he wants to do whatever it takes to help Southwest reach the state tournament. Those goals are backed by the work he is putting in every day, making them much more than words written on paper.
The version of Apollo Lewis that takes the floor this season won't be the same one people watched a year ago. He expects to be stronger, more athletic, more confident, and even more comfortable creating offense from anywhere on the floor. Every improvement has been earned through countless hours of work, and he believes the best basketball of his young career is still waiting just around the corner.
I assess that Apollo is a skilled guard whose shooting ability immediately grabs attention, but his biggest strength may be his commitment to constant improvement. He understands where his game needs to grow, attacks those areas with purpose, and has already shown noticeable progress as a scorer who can impact games in more ways than just shooting from the outside. His confidence, work ethic, basketball IQ, and willingness to embrace challenges give him a strong foundation as he continues developing into a complete guard.
Apollo's ceiling continues to rise because he refuses to become comfortable. His dedication in the weight room, disciplined shooting routine, and focus on becoming more athletic are all pointing him toward another jump this season. As his physical tools continue catching up with his skill level, expect him to become more dangerous attacking the basket, creating his own offense, and leading his team in bigger moments while continuing to build on an already impressive all-around game. Stay tuned.
