Matt is a guard who has made his name known in the national spotlight with a mix of skill, composure, and a relentless work ethic. He is a lethal three-level sniper with a high basketball IQ. He brings leadership and a calm presence that make him thrive when the lights shine brightest. Known for staying cool in the biggest moments, Matt combines efficiency from deep, toughness at the rim, and a growing mid-range arsenal that keeps defenses on their heels. He doesn’t just play the game but controls it.
The Adidas Gold circuit was his proving ground, and Matt turned it into his stage. Averaging 24 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds across three sessions, he became a top 10 scorer overall while earning Player of the Session honors three times in a row. Among over 600 competitors, he established himself as one of the most dangerous guards on the floor, finishing as a Top 4 scorer on the entire circuit. His performances were validated with explosive games of 30, 25, and 19 points in just four outings—reminding coaches that he can be consistently dominant. Every trip, from Kansas to Rock Hill to Omaha, ended with Matt’s name etched among the best.
In his junior season at Frisco Wakeland, he averaged 16 points and 5 rebounds per game while shooting a blistering 44% from three, helping his team earn a playoff berth and a winning record before a foot fracture cut his year short. Even with the setback, he earned Second Team All-District and All-Academic honors. Now fully healthy, he’s focused on attacking the rim with more physicality, mastering his mid-range, and leading his team on a deeper postseason run. With every key player returning, Matt believes this group has the makings of a state contender.
Pressure situations fuel him. From his game-winner against Lone Star last season to his reputation for delivering clutch shots, Matt has already proven he can be trusted with the ball in the most critical moments. His leadership, combined with a steady calmness that never gets too high or low, sets the tone for his teammates. Coaches know that when the game is tight, Matt wants the ball.
Matt’s foundation is rooted in family and faith. His dad, who also coaches him, has been instrumental in shaping his game and summer success, while his mom has been his biggest supporter every step of the way. The best advice he’s ever received is, "Play hard, have fun, and give God all the glory". Matt’s faith is the anchor that steadies him through every high and low. He leans on his relationship with God as his foundation, giving Him all the glory for the opportunities and blessings the game has brought. When adversity comes, whether it is battling back from his foot injury or facing the pressures of high-level competition, Matt stays grounded in prayer and trusts in God’s plan. That faith allows him to remain calm under pressure, confident in his preparation, and grateful for every moment on the court. For Matt, basketball is not just about wins and stats, but about honoring God through his effort, his attitude, and the way he carries himself as a leader.
Matt also represents excellence in the classroom. Carrying a 4.1 GPA and earning multiple All-Academic honors, he proves that his discipline stretches far beyond the court. With his work ethic, intelligence, and leadership, he is a true student-athlete, one who sets the standard in both academics and athletics.
Off the court, Matt enjoys the balance of being a regular teenager, spending time with friends, going to the lake, watching college football, and catching up on rest. But when the lights come on, he’s focused, fiery, and determined to prove he belongs among the nation’s elite guards.
I assess that Matt’s shooting efficiency, clutch scoring, and circuit-tested performances make him a weapon any program would covet. His ability to space the floor while still attacking the rim and making plays for others transforms him into more than just a scorer, but a game-changer. Add in his defensive grit and his leadership, and Matt is the type of guard who can elevate a team from competitive to championship-level.
Looking ahead, expect Matt to continue evolving his scoring versatility while embracing the role of leader and closer. With proven success against top national competition, his confidence and production are built for the next level. His potential is sky-high as a guard who not only fills up the stat sheet but also thrives in the biggest moments. If his track record is any indication, Matt Lastre is only scratching the surface of the fire he’s bringing to the game. Stay tuned for a monster season ahead.
