Getting overlooked can either break a player or fuel a fire that refuses to go out. For rising freshman Lenuyere Cook, it became motivation. Every obstacle, every missed opportunity, and every challenge has only made him hungrier to prove exactly who he is every time he steps on the floor. With his first rankings right around the corner, he's focused on letting his game do all the talking.

Lenuyere describes himself as a win-first player before anything else. He loves making the extra pass, getting teammates involved, locking in on the defensive end, and doing whatever his coach asks of him. Scoring has never been the only thing that defines his game because he understands winning comes from making the right play at the right time. That team-first mindset, combined with his willingness to be coached, gives him a strong foundation to keep building on as his game continues to grow.

His freshman season at Kentwood High had its ups and downs after missing part of the year, but he still averaged around 13 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals while making his presence felt whenever he stepped on the court. One of his favorite moments came after struggling through the first three quarters of a game before answering when his team needed him the most, pouring in 11 fourth-quarter points to help finish the job. Moments like that build confidence because they prove you don't have to start fast to finish strong.

AAU brought another challenge that tested his mindset. Playing time was hard to come by because his coach already had relationships with other players, but instead of getting frustrated or letting disappointment change his attitude, Lenuyere stayed ready. Whenever his number was called, he made smart passes, defended with energy, and looked to score efficiently, making every minute count. That experience taught him one of the biggest lessons of his young career, which was to stay humble, keep working, and trust that the right opportunity will come.

One area where he feels his game improved was finishing through contact. Being able to absorb physical play and still complete tough baskets has added another weapon to his offensive game, and he knows there is still plenty of room to grow. This offseason is all about getting stronger, improving every part of his skill set, making a name for himself on the camp circuit, climbing the Prep Hoops rankings, and finding an AAU program willing to give him a real opportunity to show everything he can do.

The work behind the scenes is just as important as the games, and that's where his character stands out. Carrying a 3.0 GPA while balancing basketball isn't easy, but his family gives him the motivation to keep pushing every day. They believe in him, support his dreams, and inspire him to create better opportunities not only for himself but for the people who have always been in his corner.

Ask Lenuyere what a coach can expect, and the answer is that he'll work as hard as he possibly can, communicate with his teammates, make smart decisions with the basketball, and do whatever it takes to help his team win. That mindset isn't built around individual numbers or attention because his focus stays on making the right plays and earning everything that comes his way.

As he prepares for the upcoming season, Lenuyere expects to return bigger, stronger, more skilled, and more confident than ever before. Every workout, every camp, and every challenge is another step toward becoming the player he knows he can be.
