Northwestern HS, SC

Ryland is a crafty electric guard who brings a complete skillset wrapped in heart, hustle, and unselfish play. His handles are wicked, shifty, unpredictable, and impossible to sit on, and he’s an absolute nightmare off the bounce. He can create for himself or drop sweet dimes with elite vision and timing. Ryland, a natural floor general, sees the court like a seasoned vet, picking defenses apart with quick reads and creative passes. He’s a knockdown shooter, especially from deep, but he never forces it, he’s always about the extra pass and playing the right way. What separates him even more is the way he defends, full-court pressure, quick hands, fearless mentality, and pride in locking up the opponent’s best. He’s a fierce two-way weapon who can take over a game without needing to take over the ball.

Last season, Ryland averaged 6.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.6 steals across 19 games, with his confidence, work ethic, and playmaking he has really elevating his game. Now, his goal is to become more vocal, more physical, and even more versatile. His offseason focus is on speed, strength, agility, vertical explosion, and leadership, especially learning to communicate and hold his teammates accountable. His mindset is to play hard, play smart, and be the glue that holds everything together.

His AAU season is heating up. He’s playing with Team Force and will represent them at nationals in Myrtle Beach. He’s also playing for Carolina Pressure Pro16 for key events in Richmond and Orlando, aiming to leave his mark on the Puma Pro16 Finals. In the first Live Period of the year, Ryland made a major statement, averaging 14.7 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals while leading his team to a 2–1 finish and earning MVP honors in all three games. His goal is to keep grinding, keep producing, and earn the looks that match his effort. He’s fueled by belief from those closest to him, his coaches, and his family and driven by a hunger that’s hard to match.

Next season at Northwestern, Ryland is excited about the new coaching staff, Coach Baumgardner, Coach Rose, Coach Bo, and Coach Gaither, and the special energy they’ve brought to the program. With returning talent and round-the-clock dedication, he feels like this group can make serious noise. From early-morning workouts to late-night gym sessions, he’s all in with his team, building chemistry and trusting the process.

Defense fires him up the most, locking someone up 94 feet, drawing charges, and disrupting flow. But he also finds joy in seeing his teammates smile, having fun, and playing unselfish basketball. His mental toughness shows in how he handles adversity, staying poised, keeping a next-play focus, and making sure his energy lifts everyone around him. His faith is strong, and he lives by the message his coach once gave him during a knee injury setback: God does things for a reason. That moment changed him, and now he plays every game like it’s his last.

This year, Ryland’s heart is even heavier after losing his grandpa to cancer, a man who shared his love for the game and who Ryland affectionately called “PawPaw.” Every time he steps on the court, it’s with pride, purpose, and a quiet message: #Ball4PawPaw. That fire is part of what makes him special, he plays not just with skill, but with meaning.

Off the court, Ryland keeps himself grounded through community involvement, time in the weight room, and peaceful escapes like thrifting, building Lego sets, or gaming with friends. He values happiness, positivity, and creating lasting memories just as much as buckets and wins.

I assess that Ryland is a true playmaker with rare court vision, a smooth outside shot, and elite defensive effort. His mix of IQ, energy, and toughness gives him the tools to contribute immediately in a college system that values two-way guards and high character. He's a glue guy with star qualities, ready to help a program win in every way possible.

Expect Ryland to keep rising. He’s a confident, poised guard who thrives in structure but can take over when needed. As he continues to build strength, expand his vocal leadership, and make noise on the Pro16 circuit, his name should stay hot on college radars. That dog is in him, and it’s only getting louder. Stay tuned for a breakout season ahead.
