Eli Duberry describes his game as fast and full of finesse, and his ability to line up at outside linebacker, inside linebacker, defensive end, and offensive tackle gives him plenty of ways to help his team. He wants to beat his opponent with quickness and technique, then finish the play with the physical edge that has made him such a force this season.
Eli has piled up 35 total tackles, including 31 solo stops, 10 tackles for loss, and 4 sacks. He's also forced 3 fumbles and blocked 2 field goals, making his presence felt on defense and special teams. Those numbers tell the story of a player who can chase down a ball carrier, get into the backfield, and change a game when his team needs a stop.
The season has tested Eli and his teammates through a four-game losing streak, but he's kept competing at a high level. He refuses to let a tough stretch decide how he plays, and that determination helped earn him FSPN Defensive Player of the Week honors. He points to his stronger drive on every snap and his improved ability to track the ball carrier as the biggest changes in his game since last season.
Before the snap, Eli studies whichever player is his key, whether that is the tight end, the tackle, or someone else in front of him. Where that player looks and what he does can give Eli an early clue about the play. He combines that attention to detail with work on and off the field, pushing himself daily so he is ready when the ball moves.
His teammates bring another spark to his game. Hearing them hype him up feeds his competitive fire, especially when he knows they need him to step in and make a stop. Coaches can count on Eli to give everything he has whenever he takes the field, regardless of the score or how the season is going.
Eli’s quickness is especially valuable when he trusts his first clue and commits to the play. His ability to follow a ball carrier through traffic helps him stay involved after the initial action, while his finesse gives him a way to challenge blockers without depending only on strength.
Eli offers a coaching staff flexibility when deciding how to use him against different opponents. His best value comes from alert preparation and a competitive response when a drive demands a stop, giving his team a defender who stays locked in when the game gets difficult.
