Chris brings an electric mix of speed, aggression, and good technique to the defensive backfield. He reads what's in front of him, reacts fast, and closes on the ball with the intent to finish the tackle. His game starts with good eyes and quick feet, but his fierce approach when the ball arrives gives receivers another reason to notice him. He takes pride in playing his coverage well enough that offenses think twice before throwing his way.
This season, Chris has made 35 tackles and earned All-Conference honors at defensive back. Those tackles show how quickly he gets to the ball when a play develops in front of him, while the honor reflects the work he puts into his coverage. Even with that recognition, he isn't satisfied. He wants to keep working and become the best version of himself each time he steps on the field.
The biggest improvement Chris has seen since last season is in his technique and tackling. He's put time into his footwork and hit the weight room hard, building the strength to finish plays and the movement to stay with a receiver. He also became a state champion in the 4x200 relay and earned All-Conference recognition in track. That speed shows up in football when he spots the ball and makes a fast break toward it.
Chris puts just as much work into understanding a play before it starts. He studies film, watches how an offense lines up, and uses those clues to prepare for what might be coming. Once the ball is snapped, he trusts his eyes and technique. A coach can count on him to work hard, play aggressively, and make a tackle when the play comes his way.
His offseason focus was getting faster and stronger while continuing to work on his footwork. Those goals still drive him as the season goes on, because he believes there's more he can bring to his team. Behind all that work is his mom. Chris sees how hard she works for him, and doing his best for her is what fuels his fire.
I assess that Chris gives his team a dependable defender who combines film study with quick reactions. He pays attention to offensive formations, recognizes what they could be setting up, and has the speed to get involved when the ball moves his way.
His commitment to the details gives him room to make an even greater impact. As his footwork and strength continue to develop, Chris can turn more of those early reads into decisive plays while bringing the same fearless approach to every snap.
