Zach brings an electric mix of athleticism and football IQ to Loudoun Valley’s offense. He can stand tall and deliver a deep ball with touch, spot a crease and take off, or turn a broken play into something that keeps a drive alive. He calls himself an extremely competitive playmaker, and that description fits a quarterback who wants the ball in his hands when the game gets tight. His legs give defenses another problem to solve, but his quick decisions and command of the offense make those physical gifts even more dangerous.
Coaches can count on Zach to compete through the final whistle and lead with the same fire on every snap. His dad taught him early that a quarterback can't carry one mistake into the next play, and Zach has taken that lesson onto the field. He can throw a pick, reset his mind, and come back ready to lead another drive. That resilience matters to his teammates because they know his confidence will still be there when they need him most.
The season opened with a fight on the road at Millbrook, where Loudoun Valley trailed by nine points late. Zach threw his only interception of the season in that game, then answered by leading two scoring drives that helped set up a walk-off field goal. He stayed calm with a new group of receivers beside him and trusted his coaches and teammates as they fought their way back. That finish gave the Vikings an early look at the chemistry they could build when things got difficult.
The running game gave Zach another way to take charge while the passing attack found its rhythm. He rushed for over 100 yards in three of the next four games and scored 5 touchdowns on the ground during that stretch. Four key senior receivers had graduated, and early injuries made it harder for the new group to settle in right away. Zach and his receivers had put time in together during the offseason, but live games helped them learn each other’s timing. As the group got healthier, the completions and passing touchdowns began to climb.
Zach has thrown at least 3 touchdown passes in five of the last six games, showing how far that connection has come. Beating Loudoun County meant even more after two losses to them last season. He had 255 total yards and 3 passing touchdowns in that win, helping his team answer a matchup that had stayed with them. His biggest performance came in the district opener at Heritage, where he threw for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns while adding 106 rushing yards and 2 more scores on the ground. Defenders had to account for his arm and his legs, and he made them pay with both.
Through nine games, Zach has 1,974 total yards, 20 passing touchdowns, 5 rushing touchdowns, one interception, and a 139 QBR. Those numbers show the reach of his game, from protecting possessions to finishing drives through the air or on the run. He has also set Loudoun Valley’s career records for passing yards and passing touchdowns, putting his name in the program’s history while still pushing for more with this team.
His biggest improvement since last year shows up when the play no longer looks the way it did on the sideline. Zach has become more crafty when protection breaks down, keeping his eyes up as he searches for a throw or sees an opening to run. He's grown into a stronger rushing threat, and his deep ball now carries more distance and touch. That combination lets him answer a defense in several ways without forcing the same play every time.
The Millbrook comeback stands out as the adversity that tested him most. Zach had to respond to a mistake, an unfamiliar receiver group, and a late deficit in the same game. He trusted the people beside him, stayed confident, and helped turn a difficult road opener into a win. The way his teammates answered with him helped set the tone for a group that continues to play for each other.
There is plenty behind the scenes that feeds Zach’s game. During the season, he practices and lifts with the team, studies film with his coaches, then spends more time on his own preparing for the next opponent. He also throws with his receivers on weekends, giving them more chances to build the timing that now shows up on game days. In the offseason, he trains in the weight room, works with his quarterback coach, and puts in speed and agility sessions at home and on the field.
Before the snap, Zach uses that film study to read the defense quickly and decide where the ball should go. When the picture changes after the snap, his athleticism and improved improvisation give him a way to respond. He plans to carry that into the playoffs by making smart choices, protecting the football, and taking what the defense gives him. With Loudoun Valley unbeaten at 9–0, he and his teammates are following Coach Bishop’s lead by focusing on the opponent in front of them and trying to go 1–0 each week.
What fuels Zach goes beyond his own records. He wants to raise the standard of Loudoun Valley football, bring more attention to the program, and help his team win a regional championship and reach the state playoffs. He knows that run will take daily focus and a team that stays together, and he is ready to leave everything on the field for the players beside him.
I assess that Zach’s command of the offense starts with how quickly he can recognize a defense and choose a strong answer. His explosive running puts defenders in a tough spot when they commit to the pass, while his touch on longer throws gives his receivers a chance to make big plays. He has the toughness to respond when a game turns against him and the leadership to keep his teammates believing they can answer together.
Zach has the skills to make an impact in the playoffs because his game travels well when a defense takes away its first option. He can reset after a difficult snap, extend a play with his legs, and deliver an accurate ball when a receiver breaks free. His fierce competitive fire and growing connection with his teammates make him a dynamic leader for Loudoun Valley, with the potential to carry this run deep into the postseason. Stay tuned.
