Alfonso has grown into the quarterback Ransom Everglades trusts to lead its offense, bringing a dynamic mix of arm strength, accuracy, and calm decision-making to the job. The Raiders mix pro-style and spread concepts, giving him chances to send the ball deep, find a teammate underneath, or take off when a running lane opens. He wants to see the field clearly and put each throw where his receiver has the best chance to make the play. Even when the moment gets intense, Alfonso works to stay composed, communicate with his teammates, and keep the offense moving.
That command has helped him put together an impressive sophomore season. Alfonso has thrown for 2,018 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing 65.1% of his passes, and he has added five scores on the ground with a 117.1 passer rating. His production shows what he can do through the air, while the rushing touchdowns remind defenses that he can finish a drive with his legs. With his team sitting at 9–1, his decisions have helped turn strong individual numbers into wins for his teammates.
The comeback against Westminster gave Alfonso a chance to show how he handles a game when everything is on the line. He set a career high in passing yards, threw four touchdowns, and finished the winning drive with a quarterback sneak. That final push took more than a strong arm; it took the confidence to lead his offense back onto the field and make the play it needed. He also points to the Neumann game and the senior-night win over University School as memorable parts of a season in which the Raiders have kept finding ways to finish.
The biggest improvement in Alfonso’s game has been how quickly he trusts what he sees. Varsity snaps as a freshman gave him an early look at the speed of the game, and becoming the starter pushed him to take command of the full offense. His reads have become clearer, his throws more accurate, and his movement in the pocket more comfortable. He is learning when to let a deep ball fly, when to take the shorter completion, and when his legs give the Raiders their best option.
Starting varsity as a sophomore stands among the moments Alfonso values most, especially because it shows the trust his coaches and teammates have placed in him. Opening the season with a win gave him a strong start, and being named Player of the Game multiple times has made those victories even more meaningful. He gets a lift from seeing Colton and Noah make plays after he gets the ball to them, because those connections show what this offense can do when everyone executes together.
The loss to Immaculata-La Salle tested Alfonso and the Raiders early. They saw areas that needed attention, answered with a big win the following week, and carried that response into the rest of their season. Alfonso has learned to handle a missed throw or a stalled drive without letting it take over his next snap. His approach is to study what happened, return to practice ready to work, and give his teammates the same steady leader when the next game arrives.
Long before he took over as the starter, Alfonso spent the offseason preparing for everything the role would demand. He lifted, refined his throwing mechanics and footwork, worked with trainers and coaches, attended camps, and studied film. He also put time into becoming more vocal, knowing his teammates would need him to guide them as well as deliver the football. That preparation helped him enter the season ready to lead and gave him a foundation he could build on with each game.
His work behind the scenes continues throughout the week. Alfonso studies his own film, Ransom Everglades’ offense, and the defense waiting on the other side. Before the snap, he checks the safeties, counts defenders near the line, studies the corners’ leverage, and communicates any adjustment his teammates need. He practices his release and takes mental reps so he can recognize familiar looks when the game speeds up. A coach can expect him to know the plan, protect the ball, compete through every play, and bring that commitment to practice as well as game day.
Winning with his teammates fuels Alfonso’s fire. He loves the feeling of an offense working together and putting points on the board, and he wants the Raiders to carry that connection into the playoffs. He has dreams of playing college football and reaching the NFL, but his attention is on leading this group and giving it his best right now. The bond with his teammates, the belief of his coaches, and the standard they share give him plenty of reasons to keep pushing.
I assess that Alfonso’s arm strength and accuracy allow him to attack different areas of the field, while his mobility gives his team another scoring threat when a play calls for him to run. He reads coverage, understands when to take the throw in front of him, and has shown he can lead a drive with the game at stake. His ability to work within a balanced offense makes his impact felt through both his playmaking and his command of the huddle.
Alfonso has the football IQ, competitive edge, and leadership to keep growing into a savvy quarterback. His careful study of defenders helps him recognize opportunities early, and his confidence lets him act on those reads without losing his composure. As his experience grows, his mix of precise passing, smart choices, and fierce commitment to his teammates gives him strong potential to lead winning football well beyond this season. Stay tuned.
