Colton Smith is making his mark in every phase of the game for Ransom Everglades. He can turn a catch into a jolt for the offense, read a route from the other side of the ball, and give his team another weapon on special teams. That electric versatility has a blue-collar edge to it: Colton stays ready for the ball to find him, then puts in the physical work when the play calls for something else.
In the Raiders’ Week 9 win over NSU University School, Colton had 9 catches for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns, added 29 kick return yards for 140 all-purpose yards, and made 6 tackles with a fumble recovery. Ransom Everglades won 38–15, and his fingerprints were all over that result. He gave the offense a dependable target, helped the defense get the ball back, and contributed in the return game. For the season, his 48 catches lead Florida juniors in Classes 1A through 6A, while his 762 receiving yards lead Miami-Dade juniors and rank third in Florida’s Class 2A.
Colton says the game has started to slow down for him as the weeks have gone by. He's recognizing coverages sooner, trusting his routes, and playing faster because he's no longer getting caught up in overthinking each snap. His coaches have put him in good situations, and his quarterback has trusted him with chances to finish plays. Colton has answered by making the most of those opportunities while pushing himself to bring that same impact every week.
His confidence has grown from the work he put in during the offseason and the reps he's gained during games. He's paying closer attention to what a defense wants to take away and how a defensive back lines up against him. Those details help him attack a matchup with purpose, whether he's getting open for a throw or preparing for a chance to make a play after the catch.
That preparation mattered against NSU University School. Colton and his teammates studied film knowing they would have to be ready for a tough opponent, while he focused on coverages and the different looks he might get from defensive backs. He wanted to win his matchups, make every catch that came his way, and deliver when his team needed him. The Raiders’ goal was to win, and Colton helped them reach it by impacting far more than the passing game.
Playing receiver, safety, and special teams gives Colton a feel for the entire game. His defensive work helps him understand what a corner or safety might be thinking when he runs a route, and his time at receiver helps him recognize what an offense is trying to set up. That knowledge gives him a fierce edge on either side of the ball, but he keeps his approach simple: stay prepared and help wherever his coaches need him.
Being ranked among Florida’s best means plenty to Colton in a state filled with football talent. He's proud of what he's accomplished, yet he doesn't want the attention to pull his focus from the games still ahead. After each one, he goes back to the film to study what worked and where he can improve. He has learned that he can handle the demands of playing on both sides of the ball and still perform at a high level.
Colton wants his team to finish strong and make a run together. They have worked hard to put themselves in a good position, and he wants to make the most of it with the teammates who helped get them there. He will keep chasing the catch, the tackle, or the return that helps his team, but the result that matters most to him is another Raiders win.
Colton’s production reflects far more than a receiver having a strong season. His ability to deliver on offense, contribute on defense, and stay involved on special teams gives Ransom Everglades a dynamic playmaker whose impact can reach every phase of a game.
Colton has the route awareness, reliable hands, and football IQ to keep defensive backs guessing. His understanding of both receiver and safety play, combined with his physical drive and feel for the ball, gives him the potential to become an even more commanding two-way force. Stay tuned.
