Deacon sees his game as simple but effective, built on toughness and passion every time he steps under center. He’s not chasing flash; he’s focused on results, putting defenses in constant conflict by forcing them to account for everything he brings. When one option gets taken away, he doesn’t hesitate to shift gears and attack the next opening, turning broken looks into positive yards and keeping the defense guessing from snap to snap.
His run game has always been a major weapon, but what separates him now is how much his passing has grown, and how that has changed the way defenses approach him. He finished the season with 134 carries for 1097 yards and 14 touchdowns, while also completing 73-135 passes for 1052 yards and 9 touchdowns. What once leaned heavily toward stopping his legs has turned into a full defensive problem. Play him for the run, and he’ll hit you over the top, sit back to defend the pass, and he’s already downhill picking up chunks of yardage. He doesn’t need complexity to be dangerous, just space, recognition, and the confidence to make the right decision.
Before the snap, he’s already working through reads, picking up movement, identifying matchups, and understanding where the weakness is. Once the ball is snapped, everything happens fast. On passing plays, he keys in on a defender and forces a decision that dictates where the ball goes, while on designed runs, his mindset is aggressive and direct, attacking with the intent to finish every play in the end zone.
That approach was tested in a moment that could have broken most teams. Down 20 at halftime in the first round of the playoffs, everything pointed toward an early exit. Instead, the second half became a fight. He stepped up, took control of the offense, and gave his team a real chance to climb back into it. Big plays started to stack, momentum shifted, and even in a 20-18 loss, the response showed the kind of competitor he is when everything is on the line.
That stretch highlighted where his biggest improvement came from this season. It wasn’t just his ability to run; it was the development of his passing that forced defenses to respect every part of his game. That growth turned him into a quarterback who can control how defenses react instead of simply responding to them.
What shows up consistently is control of the offense in all situations. He can run it, throw it, extend plays, and stay composed when things break down. Instead of forcing mistakes, he adjusts, resets, and keeps the offense moving. That steady approach, especially in high-pressure moments, separates him.
The postseason reflected both adversity and growth, starting with a difficult first half and turning into a strong second-half response where leadership and execution took over. Even without the win, it reinforced that the moment never gets too big for him.
The offseason focus has been built around strength, speed, and continuing to sharpen every part of his game. The goal is clear: more production, more wins, and more impact every time he steps on the field.
Coaches watching his film see a quarterback who can run an entire offense, someone who can beat you in multiple ways while staying composed and competitive. They also see toughness, a player willing to take hits, keep pushing, and stay locked in regardless of the situation.
Everything moving forward is built on work, confidence, and a game that keeps defenses guessing from start to finish.
I assess that Deacon is a true dual-threat quarterback who impacts the game with both his legs and arm. He shows the ability to extend plays, attack downhill as a runner, and continues to grow as a passer under pressure. His pre-snap recognition and command of the offense allow him to make quick, effective decisions, while his toughness and consistency stand out in high-pressure situations.
As his passing continues to develop alongside his rushing ability, his overall effectiveness continues to rise. His athleticism, improving arm strength, and competitive edge allow him to fit into multiple offensive systems. Continued growth in passing consistency and decision-making will elevate his game further and position him as a quarterback capable of making a strong impact at the next level. Stay tuned.
