Ethan describes his game with three words: athletic, physical, and smart. You can see all three in the way he brings energy on defense, competes on the boards, and keeps working to give his team more on offense. Now, after a season spent learning from one of the most talented teams in the state, Ethan is ready to put those lessons to work in a bigger role for Webb.
Last season asked Ethan to make an adjustment that wasn't easy. He'd been a starter as a freshman, then joined a stronger Webb team where he came off the bench and had to find a new way to help. Instead of letting that change hurt his confidence, he focused on what the team needed from him each game. He watched talented teammates closely, learned how they handled the speed of play, and grew his basketball IQ while competing beside them. That experience gave him a better feel for when to make his move, where he could help, and how much he could learn even when he was waiting for his turn.
The postseason gave Ethan more time to see what it takes to compete with the best. He came out of the season understanding the pace of the game better, and adjusting to that speed became the biggest improvement in his own play. Now he expects to score more efficiently at every level, with the confidence to bring more to Webb’s offense. He's been working on his shot, his ability to make plays, and his comfort playing on the wing because his role as a scorer will grow this season. He wants to make the most of that chance while continuing to do the work that earned his coaches’ trust in the first place.
His summer numbers showed just how much he can give a team when he gets going. In the PRO 16 finals, Ethan averaged 26.4 points, 13.2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks while shooting 46 percent from three. He could put points on the board, gobble up rebounds, find teammates, and protect the basket, giving opponents plenty to deal with each time he stepped on the court. Those performances also gave him something to build on as he heads into a season where he's pushing to average a double-double and become more of a playmaker for Webb.
The work behind those goals begins before school and continues after it. Ethan lifts every day, practices with Webb, makes time for skill work, and puts up hundreds of shots daily. That routine has helped him improve as a shooter and prepare for more chances to score, but he takes just as much pride in what he brings on defense. Coaches have pointed out his motor, and he wants them to know they can count on an energetic defender who will keep competing on every possession. His physical play and willingness to work give him a way to help Webb even on nights when his shot is not falling.
Ethan’s love for basketball has stayed strong through 11 years of playing nearly every day, and his competitive fire keeps pushing him to see how far he can go. There's also a deeply personal reason behind his drive. The passing of his father has stayed with him, and Ethan wants to honor his family through the work he puts in now. He hopes basketball can help him earn a college education so his mother doesn't have to pay for it by herself. Every early workout, every shot after practice, and every hard possession has meaning for Ethan because he is playing for his future and for the mother who has been there with him.
I assess that Ethan brings a strong mix of physical play, growing skill, and effort that shows up well beyond his scoring. His willingness to accept a bench role on a loaded team says a great deal about how he approaches the game, while the progress he made watching and learning has prepared him for more minutes. He can help Webb by attacking the boards, bringing life to its defense, and giving teammates another scoring option who has worked hard to expand what he can do.
The biggest thing to watch this season is how Ethan uses his improved feel for the game when he has more chances to make plays. His summer production showed what is possible, and the daily work he's put into his shooting and wing play gives him a strong foundation for the role ahead. As he keeps making good decisions while bringing the same fierce motor that coaches already recognize, Ethan will make a major impact for Webb and keep moving toward the goals that mean so much to him and his family. Stay tuned.
