Gabe plays the game with confidence, energy, and a competitive fire that never takes a possession off. Every time he steps on the floor, he brings an attacking mindset, but never lets the game speed him up. He scores from all three levels, creates easy opportunities for teammates, and takes just as much pride in shutting people down on the defensive end. His speed is electric, his handles keep defenders reaching at air, and his ability to stay under control while flying around the court makes him a nightmare to guard. He isn't chasing highlights or statistics because his focus has always been making the right basketball play, and that mentality has turned him into one of the fastest rising guards around.
Nothing about Gabe's journey has come easy. During his sophomore season, he had to earn everything the hard way, battling older players for every minute on the floor while spending part of the season coming off the bench as the sixth man. Instead of getting frustrated, he stayed patient, kept working, and slowly forced his way into a bigger role. He averaged around 10 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals per game before eventually becoming the team's leading scorer over the final stretch of the season. Along the way, he exploded for 27 points against West Carter, poured in 21 points against Rowan while raining in 6-7 triples in the district tournament, and finished as his team's leading scorer in the opening round of the regional tournament. Even as a sophomore, he believed he could lead his team, and although that opportunity came late in the year, it gave everyone a glimpse of what was coming next.
Summer basketball became the stage where everything started coming together. Playing for Fleming County, Gabe never scored fewer than 20 points in a single game, putting together one impressive performance after another. He had 26 points against rival Mason County, followed it with 25 against Bethel-Tate, and carried that confidence into a breakout AAU season. One weekend in Bowling Green, playing for Team Tae under former NBA player Dontae Jones, he averaged 23.2 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals while completely controlling the pace of the game. Whether it was making shots, creating for teammates, or coming up with timely defensive plays, everything seemed to click. He even sealed one victory with a tough contact layup that perfectly summed up the confidence he played with all weekend. As impressive as that tournament was, Gabe believes it wasn't even his best. Earlier in the summer while playing for a local Frankfort team in Gatlinburg, he exploded for 40 points, 5 assists, and 5 steals against Team Tae before following it with another 25-point performance against a talented Alabama squad. Those scoring explosions weren't about forcing shots because they came from reading the game, playing at his own pace, trusting his teammates, and attacking whenever defenses gave him an opening.
One of the biggest reasons for that improvement has been the work he put into finishing around the basket. Growing up undersized made scoring inside much tougher, so he attacked that weakness every single day. Countless workouts were built around finishing through contact, using creative angles around the rim, and learning how to get defenders off balance before exploding past them. His quick first step became even more dangerous, his handles became tighter, and suddenly defenders who couldn't stay in front of him had no answer once he got into the paint. What used to be one of the hardest parts of his game has quietly become one of his biggest strengths.
The toughest battle Gabe ever fought wasn't against another team. It was believing in himself when very few others did. During middle school, he found himself sitting at the end of the bench while being undersized and overlooked. That continued into his freshman season on the JV bench before everything finally started changing. Instead of accepting that role, he used every doubt, every missed opportunity, and every setback as motivation to become better. That mindset helped carry him to All-District and All-Region honors as a sophomore, and it continues driving him every single day. Those difficult moments still fuel him because he never wants to forget where he started or what it took to get here.
This offseason has been just as much about building his body as sharpening his game. Gabe finished the school season weighing only 122 pounds and has already worked his way up to 142 through disciplined meal plans and consistent weight training. His goal is to add another eight pounds before October while continuing to improve every area of his game. Shooting has become another daily priority as he puts up around 300 shots a day, and he's working just as hard to become a stronger leader for both his school and AAU teams because he understands leadership is earned long before the opening tip.
The work nobody sees is where Gabe separates himself. Two workouts a day have become normal as he spends countless hours sharpening his shot, tightening his handles, improving his finishing, building strength, increasing explosiveness through plyometrics, and studying film to better understand both the game and himself. He enjoys watching De'Aaron Fox because he sees similarities in their speed and attacking style, but the greatest source of his confidence comes from his faith. Gabe gives all the credit to Jesus for every step of his journey because he believes the hardships, the disrespect, and the obstacles built the competitor he is today. Instead of wishing the road had been easier, he embraces every challenge because each one added another layer to his determination and hunger.
Every time Gabe steps on the court, coaches know exactly what they're getting. They'll get relentless effort from the opening tip until the final buzzer, an unselfish teammate who values winning over personal numbers, a guard who competes on both ends of the floor, and someone who remains coachable even in the biggest moments. He embraces whatever role gives his team the best chance to succeed and never lets emotions take him away from making the right basketball play.
As he prepares for his junior season, Gabe believes the best basketball is still ahead. He expects a breakout year and has no plans of slowing down. While projections have him averaging 18 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals per game, he believes the work he put in this summer has prepared him for even more. Every game will be another opportunity to prove himself, lead his teammates, continue protecting his 4.0 GPA, and show that the once overlooked guard has grown into one of the most dangerous playmakers opponents will face.
I assess that Gabe is an explosive two-way guard whose speed, handles, finishing ability, and confidence allow him to impact every possession. His ability to score from all three levels while creating for teammates and defending with intensity makes him valuable in every phase of the game. His growth physically and mentally has elevated his ceiling, and his willingness to embrace coaching and leadership continues to separate him.
The most exciting part of Gabe's story is that his best basketball still appears to be in front of him. His relentless work ethic, commitment to improving every weakness, growing strength, high basketball IQ, and unwavering confidence have positioned him for a huge junior season. Expect his name to keep gaining attention because everything about his approach points toward a player whose climb is only getting started. Get your popcorn ready, this show will continue to get better and better. Stay tuned.
