Ty is a combination of length, skill, and fire with long arms and smooth mechanics, he has made a reputation as a versatile sniper who can punish defenses from deep but now attacks with much more than just his shot. Once solely known as a shooter, he’s evolved into a dynamic scorer who can get to the rim, create his own looks, and finish with flair on pull-up jumpers, floaters, spin moves, and baseline reverses are all part of his growing arsenal. His handles have improved, giving him a guard-like presence at his size, and his athleticism and defensive energy bring impact on both ends.
Last season, Karlen pulled up to JV at a massive school of over 4,000 students, earning a bigger role and taking on guard responsibilities. That leap showcased his versatility and work ethic. He’s a relentless competitor who loves to bite back when challenged and thrives on both ends of the floor, talking on defense, rebounding, and setting up teammates with smart passing and IQ-driven play. He believes culture matters, and his passion for seeing teammates thrive translates directly into team success.
AAU ball with Real Phenom Hoops pushed him further. His performance earned him “Player of the Game” honors while proving he can shine against elite competition, hitting threes, forcing turnovers, and grabbing boards with intensity. Scouts noticed his combination of long arms, shooting touch, anticipation, and ability to change games in transition. The live period gave him chances to impress coaches, and while team exposure limited some opportunities, Karlen made his presence felt, proving he belongs on watchlists moving forward.
What separates Ty is his mindset. Raised to give 100% in everything, he pours effort into every rep, whether in the gym, classroom, or life. He’s added 20 pounds of strength already, and continues to target growth areas like handling pressure, creating more separation, and staying aggressive. He lives by staying humble, letting actions do the talking, and keeping level-headed regardless of the moment. He also embraces adversity, finding fuel in doubters, opponents, or even self-imposed challenges—something he credits his dad for teaching him.
Next season, Karlen’s goals are to be a varsity starter, have the ball consistently in his hands, and log valuable experience against high-level competition. His drive is rooted in love for the game and the fire of competition; if he gets scored on, he wants the ball back to answer. Off the court, he is a full-time PSEO student balancing a heavy academic load; he’s also a leader in FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) and runs a profitable landscaping business. When free time allows, he stays active outdoors, golfing, fishing, hiking, and skiing, activities that reflect his energy and balance.
Karlen’s growth from pure shooter to complete offensive weapon makes him a valuable piece for any program. His size, length, and ability to stretch the floor, along with his improving handles and rim attacks, create matchup nightmares. Add in rebounding, IQ, and defensive instincts, and he offers true two-way value. Coaches can expect effort, leadership, and a culture-driven competitor who sets a tone with his work ethic.
Ty’s ceiling continues to rise as his athleticism and guard skills catch up with his natural length and shooting. With his hunger to compete and steady growth mindset, he’s trending toward becoming one of Minnesota’s most intriguing 2027 prospects. Expect him to keep expanding his game, locking into bigger varsity minutes, and proving to be a long, versatile playmaker who can shift the momentum of a game in an instant. A sniper with edge, discipline, and relentless drive, Karlen is a name to remember before the buzz grows louder. Stay tuned for a breakout season ahead.
