Colt McCoy already brings a loaded mix of scoring, rebounding, defense, and relentless energy every time he steps on the court. Colt describes himself as a three-level scorer who shoots at a high percentage, attacks the boards like a rebounding machine, and brings a beast mentality to the defensive end. His game isn't built on standing around waiting for the basketball either, because he's willing to hit the floor for loose balls, battle through traffic for boards, and keep working when possessions become physical. That high motor gives his game an edge because whether his shot is falling or not, there are still plenty of ways for him to leave his fingerprints all over a game.

Winning matters deeply to Colt, and that competitive fire shapes the way he approaches an entire season instead of simply looking to his own production. Playing around 30 games demands plenty of work and focus, but he embraces the competition and understands that every loss exposes details that need to be cleaned up. Instead of accepting those mistakes, Colt wants himself and his teammates to identify what went wrong and correct it together. Boyd faces a tough schedule this year, but he believes his team is capable of meeting that challenge because the work they put in can prepare them for those difficult nights.

The postseason has already given Colt memories that stick with him, including winning region championships and earning a trip to state. Being inside Rupp Arena and watching teams battle with their seasons hanging in the balance gave him another view of what meaningful basketball feels like when every possession carries extra weight. Those experiences have helped feed his hunger because he understands that getting there requires far more than showing up when tournament time arrives.

Colt saw improvement this past season in three important areas as his defense, ball handling, and middy jumper all became stronger. Improving his handle gives him more freedom with the basketball and another way to create instead of relying completely on someone else to set him up. Elevating that pull-up game adds another scoring weapon between the rim and perimeter, while becoming tougher defensively allows him to affect matchups on the opposite end. That development is beginning to make his overall attack more complete because each improvement connects with something he already does well.

There's also a constant desire to improve behind everything Colt does because he sees every opportunity inside a gym as another chance to grow. He doesn't view the end of a schedule as a time to shut things down, because the months between seasons provide valuable opportunities to tighten weaknesses and prepare for what comes next.
