Mercer is an electric floor general with speed, athleticism, and a high IQ. Mercer has some of the sickest handles out there and is a lethal three-level scorer. Mercer has a beautiful touch from deep with good range behind the arc. Mercer is explosive off the bounce, attacks the lane with intent, and is a fierce finisher. Mercer is a dazzling playmaker with elite court vision, which he uses to read defenses and react quickly with sweet passes to open or cutting teammates. He is fierce on the boards with sneaky good hops and positioning. Mercer is a ruthless defender.
Mercer has been off to a hot start this season, averaging 18 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals per game. Mercer’s biggest improvement his physicality, adding 10 pounds of muscle while getting much faster and improving his vertical jump. Mercer is focused on improving his ability to read help-side defenses faster when attacking the rim and is working diligently to improve the consistency of his jump shot. His team goals include winning both the district and regional championships, while his personal ambition is to become Breckinridge County’s all-time leading scorer.
This is how Mercer handles adversity: he embraces it head-on and uses it as fuel. The intensity ramps up every time Breck County faces their bitter rival, Meade County. The energy from hostile crowds fuels Mercer, who thrives in these high-pressure moments. His confidence soars when he’s challenged, whether it's from opposing players, fans, or coaches. Mercer embraces those fiery exchanges as motivation to perform at his best. He’s ready to shoulder the offensive load, aiming to average close to 25 points per game during tournament play.
Despite his fiery passion on the court, Mercer finds balance by praying and listening to music before games. Outside of basketball, Mercer enjoys playing golf, where he has been one of the best on Breckinridge’s varsity team since eighth grade. He’s qualified for state tournaments and has been a key contributor for five years. Golf gives him another competitive outlet while allowing him to unwind from the basketball grind.
This is the best piece of advice Mercer has been given: "The work you put in will always show up when you need it. If you don’t put in the work, it will show when you most need it in big games." His work ethic is unwavering, and this mantra drives his preparation for every moment on and off the court.
Over the years, Mercer’s growth as a player has been nothing short of remarkable. He is a legitimate next-level talent, with his offers and interest solidifying that fact. As one of the hardest-working athletes, Mercer’s relentless drive to be the best version of himself sets him apart. He continues to improve and thrive on every stage he steps onto.
