Ace Hankins is quickly becoming the kind of player that can completely change the temperature of a game with a basketball in his hands. Armed with a smooth middy arsenal, a confident outside shot, and a handle that continues to get tighter and tougher to contain, Ace has already started turning heads against older competition. What jumps off the page is not just his ability to make shots, but how naturally he creates offense. Defenders can pressure him, crowd him, and try to speed him up, yet he continues to find ways to create space and make plays. The game never seems too fast, and his confidence never seems to disappear.
For a young guard, his offensive skill set already carries plenty of firepower. He can hurt defenses from beyond the arc, make them pay in the mid-range, and put pressure on opponents whenever he attacks off the bounce. While he continues working to become an even stronger finisher around the basket, the foundation of his game is already exciting. His improvement with the basketball has been one of the biggest reasons for his rise. Improved ball-handling and a greater ability to handle pressure have made him more dangerous every time he steps onto the floor.
The numbers are already beginning to back up the excitement. During summer competition, Ace averaged 21.6 points per game through his first three contests. Against varsity competition from St. Mary's and Union County, he exploded for 25.5 points per game in two games, proving he is more than willing to test himself against older and more experienced players. Those performances helped validate why he is currently ranked among the Top 120 players nationally in the Class of 2031 by Top 25 Scouts.
What makes Ace even more dangerous is his mindset. He feeds off team success and loves seeing his teammates thrive. Nothing fires him up more than watching his team play well and seeing buckets start to fall. That competitive edge shows up during difficult moments as well. When facing adversity, he refuses to let it linger. Instead of dwelling on mistakes, he quickly moves on, locks back in, and attacks the next possession with the same confidence and aggression.
Looking ahead, Ace has no shortage of goals. He wants to help Butler County build a winning culture and push the program toward a winning record. Individually, he wants to continue proving that he belongs among the best players in the nation in his class. With his scoring ability, confidence, work ethic, and willingness to compete against older players, the journey is only beginning.
I assess that Ace is an explosive young scoring guard with a growing offensive arsenal and a confidence level that allows him to thrive in big moments. His ability to create shots from multiple levels, handle pressure, and create offense makes him a difficult cover. He plays with aggression, attacks opportunities, and continues to add new layers to his game. The combination of skill, confidence, and production makes him one of the most exciting young prospects to monitor in Kentucky.
Ace possesses the scoring instincts that simply cannot be taught. He has a natural ability to put the ball in the basket while creating offense in a variety of ways. His improving handles, ability to navigate pressure, and willingness to compete against older competition accelerate his development. As his strength, finishing ability, and overall physical tools continue to mature, his ceiling rises significantly. Expect Ace to continue emerging as one of the most dangerous young scoring guards in his class. Stay tuned.
