Tracen is a certified shotmaker with a high IQ and a calm, unshakable style that makes him one of the toughest guards to rattle in Idaho. A career 40% three-point shooter, he’s a smooth sniper who can rain jumpers from deep, off the catch or bounce. His footwork is smooth, his mechanics are elite, and his shot selection is sharp. Tracen’s not flashy but efficient, smart, and effective. He rarely forces, rarely turns it over, and always makes the right play. Coaches trust him because he understands the game on a deeper level and does everything with purpose.
He broke Highland’s single-game 3-point record with 9 made threes, passing a mark once held by his own dad, and scored 31 points in that performance. That explosion put a target on his back, as teams started face-guarding him and being physical the rest of the season. But instead of folding, he took that challenge and turned it into offseason motivation. Tracen finished the year averaging 13 points per game, 94.4% from the free-throw line, 36% from three, and posted a 45.5% eFG. He also maintained a turnover rate of just 9.2%, a testament to how disciplined and unselfish his game is.
What makes his story even more powerful is what he overcame. Just before the season started, his family had to uproot their lives due to issues at his previous school, where Tracen had started since his freshman year. He transferred across the state to Highland (from 3A to 6A), stepping into an entirely new environment the day of tryouts. New coaches, new teammates, and bigger competition. But the same Tracen. Despite the move, he became Second-Team All-Conference in the High Country 6A division and earned All-Academic honors while continuing to grow as a leader on and off the floor.
This summer with Idaho MVP, he made noise again, lighting up the AOG Events tournament in California with 14 threes and another streak of consistent performances. His game is growing beyond just shooting. He’s gotten stronger, more physical, and focused on developing his finishing and 1-on-1 game. Tracen’s working on using screens and contact better, and he’s grown more confident in taking hits without backing down. When asked what a coach can expect from him, it’s simple: high effort, smart decisions, and a player who always shows up to work.
What fuels Tracen is being underestimated and proving he belongs. He feeds off big games and pressure moments, and while he doesn’t need anyone to slap him to wake up, his dad jokes that maybe it wouldn’t hurt. Tracen gets locked in when the lights are brightest, and he responds to adversity by finding ways through it. The best advice he’s ever been given is, “Don’t make a negative into a double negative.” He plays with that calm resolve, never letting one mistake turn into two, always resetting and moving forward.
Off the court, Tracen’s a mountain kid at heart. He loves hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He enjoys time with family and plans to serve a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after high school. The game runs in his blood; he’s rooted in faith, purpose, and a love for basketball that’s steady and strong.
Tracen’s elite shotmaking, basketball IQ, and efficient decision-making make him a coach’s dream in a structured offense. His ability to move without the ball, stretch defenses, and remain composed under pressure gives him real value at the next level. He doesn’t just fit in but elevates what’s already there.
As Tracen continues to add strength, improve his finishing, and grow his off-the-dribble game, he’s setting himself up to be more than just a shooter. He’s a reliable leader, a consistent performer, and someone who elevates his team with smart play and toughness. His best basketball is still ahead, and he’ll be ready when his name gets called. Stay tuned for a breakout season ahead.
