Hunter is a smooth two-way guard with a smooth scoring touch and a confident defensive motor, the kind of rising senior who is already showing signs of a breakout season. He brings a lethal three-point rainmaker that defenses cannot ignore, but what makes him stand out is how well he combines that shooting threat with sick handles, timely slashes, and a defensive edge that changes momentum. He mixes it up on the boards, disrupts passing lanes, and anchors possessions with calm, collected decision-making. He is the total package in a compact frame. He is skilled, disciplined, team-driven, and steadily elevating his game. Coaches can expect a smart guard who values the ball, takes high-percentage shots, and competes on every possession.
This season confirms his rise. After averaging 8 points, 5 steals, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists last year with almost no turnovers, he has already opened the new season with strong scoring bursts and efficient shooting. A 13-point performance against Gladwin showcased his smooth shooting form and poise, hitting 5 of 9 threes with 3 boards, 5 steals, and zero turnovers against Farwell in a big win. He followed it with a 13-point showing against Gladwin, hitting 3 of 6 from deep, adding 3 steals and 5 rebounds, and zero turnovers in a tough loss. He has elevated his finishing, strengthened his off-the-dribble shooting, and looks more confident than ever coming off screens, attacking space, and creating opportunities. The next steps are elevating his driving quickness and expanding his explosiveness to the rim, but the foundation is already there for a big senior year.
Hunter’s confidence as a shooter has grown significantly. That evolution has opened up a balanced scoring bag with catch and shoot threes, pull up middys off the dribble creation, and improved finishing at the rim. He handles adversity with poise and rarely loses composure, staying steady in tight games and feeding off moments when he hits a key bucket. Defensively, he plays with active hands, anticipating passes and turning stops into transition chances. His coaches know they can rely on him to value every possession, limit mistakes, and space the floor with reliable shooting.
The road has not been easy. Tearing his ACL as a sophomore halted his early recruiting momentum, but instead of fading, Hunter rebuilt his body, evolved his skillset, and returned performing at the highest level of his career. Now healthier, stronger, and more confident, he is proving exactly what he believed all along, that he can make a real impact at the college level when given the opportunity. He holds two DII JV interests and is exploring a potential walk-on path at a local D2 school, confident that the right exposure will unlock better opportunities.
Off the court, Hunter is as impressive as he is on it. With a 4.269 GPA, a regional Martin Luther King Jr. scholarship, and involvement in multiple school activities, he brings the full academic and community package that college programs value. He is a leader, a student, and a competitor with a clear direction and purpose.
Hunter Habitz is rising at the right time, sharpening every area of his game and stepping into his senior year with a chip on his shoulder and momentum behind him. What he is building now could very well be the spark that launches him into the next level.
I assess that Hunter offers a dependable shooting threat, two-way toughness, and disciplined decision-making that makes him easy to plug into a college system. His shooting touch, defensive swagger, and low-turnover play style give him early rotational value. Programs seeking a steady, high-IQ guard who competes on both ends will find strong upside in him.
As he improves his driving quickness and adds more burst to his game, Hunter has the potential to shift from a reliable role contributor to a full-impact guard. His growth potential is climbing, his confidence is rising, and his early-season performances reflect a player who is ready to break out in his final high school campaign. Stay tuned.
